Coogler still broke records as a filmmaker of color. No hate on booker because he did his thing on obsession but I think it says more about the horror genre in general than it does on individual filmmakers. Sinners, obsession, weapons these have all been horror movies that aren't just entertaining and high quality but they have the box office to show for it which is a lot more than IP big budget movies like supergirl, mortal kombat and masters of the universe. Horror is what is saving theaters right now

Sinners was the 20th highest-grossing movie of 2025, Weapons was at 23
Obsession is currently at #8 for 2026, but with the big releases still coming out this year it'll probably finish outside of the Top 20 as well
All of those movies were extremely profitable because they made huge money against small budgets, but I wouldn't say they're saving theaters at all, the highest-grossing movies are all still the franchise and IP stuff

The only difference (we know of and that Curry has talked about) is a longer sequence of the car scene. It would be probably less than 25-30 seconds.
