this was pretty solid, pretty good even.

almost more unsettling than the film itself is seeing people (well, men) make arguments siding with Bear, or at least giving him some sort of benefit of the doubt.

i am a little confused by the reception, however. like it's good, but not THAT good (shout out Inde Navarrette though, she did amazing). yet, i wouldn't call it overhyped/overrated as it definitely deserves its flowers.

i suppose it's because it's more a more straight-forward and digestible story - compared to, say, Backrooms - and therefore casts a bigger audience net? there's not much thinking and the focus is on the shock value.

oh and i also really liked the score and how it was utilized. like sometimes it just abruptly stops and matches the scene and then starts again. the earlier music reminded me of Backrooms (the series), where it was just unsettling, but not necessarily spooky. just unnerving.

Finally got around to seeing this.

Really well done honeestly. The lighting was so purposeful.

Theres that scene where Nikki is standing in the doorway and her face is dark except the twinkle of her eyes.

The actress that played Nikki did the transformation so well.

That first scene after the wish was so anxiety inducing.

The billion dollar wish seemed a little out of place but otherwise I really enjoyed it.

Nikki is all kinds of f***ed up at the end.

I think it was more of a playful ew 🤷‍♂️ but also I think they liked each other differently and she was aware of that. She gave off being fine with fwb/fling whereas main guy wanted 3 children 10 acres dying together holding hands in the rocker at age 94 type beat. You reference the scene in the car next page and I think that was a yellow light not full green - a “let’s see what happens, but this is the one blatant chance I’m giving you” if you will.

I felt like the movie was too short/didn't do much with its runtime. The hype left me with a "That's it? " feeling
