i feel like AKNC and SFG two of the most important mixtapes of all time and accomplished similar things but to their specific demographics if that makes sense
I spent so much time trying to like and dislike the right songs on there to curate the best station
no cap kids don’t know how good they have it these days
Facts I’m hip
AKNC was my intro to Cudi. I watched when he premiered Day n Nite vid on 106 and Ye dropped Welcome to Heartbreak. Peeped after school and was talking about the vids at school during lunch. Nigga said he thought his TV was f***ed up when Heartbreak came on lmao
I had to find Cudi loosies on YouTube bc he didn’t that much of a catalog back then lol
I was listening to AKNC like everyday otw to school. Seeing the lead up MOTM was great. He actually performed in my city around that time and brought out Ye, I wasn’t there though 🤦🏾♂️
I never thought things would transpire like this. That XXL Freshman wave was apart of my childhood no cap. Listening to AKNC, Pink Lavalamp, Below the Heavens, and whatever Spitta was dropping. All free music I really miss that
SBTH was the first rollout I was attentively apart of online n dat s*** was wild but before that I was like 8 years old hearing snippets of songs from AKNC-MOTM1 era my older brothers would play like heaven at night n soundtrack to my life . They basically unknowingly planted the seeds in my childhood for me to become a cudi stan . Been a hell of ride though n it was truly a wonderful experience to discover all the cudi loosies n deep cut songs in his discog that I never knew existed
For that experience alone he’ll forever be one of my favorite artists no matter how s*** the music gets ( not that it is now but hypothetically)

Crazy that at one point Cudi was on the same level of Drake. S*** I think I was even more of a Cudi fan back then

Def makes sense. Two sides of the same coin if you will.
Ppl don’t even make tapes like this anymore. Used to be a big thing for popular rapper to go over a bunch of other popular beats of the moment. Most notably Wayne.

cudi was a fly ass dude and made emotional music but could also rap his ass off. drake pulled out his phone on hot 97. i think in like 09 cudi prolly had a bigger fanbase
forgot how good Down and Out was
Honestly forgot how good a lot of these songs were. AKNC always been by far my least played Cudi project

I don’t think cudi ever truly had more commercial appeal tho. Drake was huge the second he made best I ever had. Cudi was never making that type of radio music. He popped off cuz no one else sounded like him when he dropped. Not cuz his music was mainstream darling material.
Does a sound like they added some stuff or am i tripping?
Na I can hear it too also I feel like the improved audio quality is the MOST noticeable in that song also

100% I always am in awe of how many legends were in the making all at one time. Truly my favorite time (and for my money) the best time in music ever
