Pathfinder WOTR and Rogue Trader by Owlcat on -35% sale on steam can highly recommend these games if you wanna dive more into the modern side of the genre.

Huge games and while it is lacking alot of voice acting it has some of the best writing in the genre.

I'm an RPG lover, but CRPGs I never could fully get into. Tried POE1-2, and just doesn't hook me. Even though I prefer real time combat. The actual skill system to me just wasn't engaging, and felt restricting. Like a lot of spells were 1 use only. You'd have to like sleep at an inn for it to be used again. That's a lil too DnD for me.

POE2 was a lil better, same issue. I'll eventually come back to them and try them again.

I just ended up buying Rogue Trader. I've been a fan of the 40K universe since the pandemic. Love Space Marine 2, and this looks pretty good. When it first came out it didn't look all that impressive, but they've seemed to have had a few visual updates, that makes the game look pretty decent

Also reviews are generally glowing about this game. So gonna try and get into this. They say it's easily 100+ hours, so if I love it this could easily be a 500+ hour game for me. It was 45% off, I bought it with all the dlc $60 with tax.

Idk how I'mma play this and MHW at the same time

They tend to be isometric, turn based RPGs with a lot of overlapping systems.

Also much more dialogue than your standard WRPG.

Adaptation of the pen and paper RPG to the Computer. The first two major CRPGs were Ultima and Wizardry. The genre has since evolved with its own conventions separate from the pen and paper game but at the same time still drawing influence from the source material.

Over the past couple years there has been a second wave of one of video games earliest and most traditional genres. Larian Studios and other developers have modernized the old formular of isometric crpgs such as Baldurs Gate 1&2, Fallout 2 etc. and created one of the best video games in recent history.

I dont know if people on here are as interested in this genre of videogames as I am but seeing how great the Souls Like thread is I might as well give it a shot.

Here are some of my favorites. Feel free to post yours and discuss.

    Baldurs Gate 3!https://youtu.be/wWHEw36gTwU

Perhabs Larian Studios newest masterpiece which is currently in Early Access. While it may resemble more the spirtual successor of Divnity Original Sin games than Biowares classics by being a turn based 3D open world type experience with a heavy emphasis on verticality and physics. The game‘s combat if mastered is incredible rewarding and the close ups when talking to characters make for the most cinematic and immersive crpg experience ever. Currently it is quite expensive and very buggy as its only in Early access but you can already see that just the groundwork and fundamental basis is already that amazing that there is no way this is not going to be a 10/10.

Personally I think the biggest strength of this one are the characters. Having great companions on your side is one the genres biggest strengths and they are just absolutely incredible done here.

    Disco Elysium!https://youtu.be/UWWA1jnI5N4

Im a huge Twin Peaks fan so this was basically made for me. This game has no combat. The strength lies in its dialogue system which always forces you to pay attention and make the right decisions. Very typically for this genre the outcome of a situation is based on your stats, what you know but in the end also luck. Sometimes failing a dialogue option and seeing your character suffering the consequences is part of the charm. So are the characters and its bizarre and hilarious and great game overall.

Pillars Of Eternity 1 and 2!https://youtu.be/W63cZxreR7g

This series is made by Obsidian studios before they were bought by Microsoft. From the games I mentioned it is the one that resembles the old classics like Baldurs Gate 1&2 or Planescape torment the most by relying on a real time with pause system. Still they improved the formular by adding tons of quality of life improvements and also the games look super clean. If you want the old vibe than this and Kingsmaker: Pathfinder is your best shot. Absolutely adored both of these games and it also got some great and fun characters with amazing sidequests.

    Divnity Original Sin 2!https://youtu.be/bTWTFX8qzPI

You dont have to play OS1 to play this and I actually wouldnt recommend it. The first one is good overall but its the second one that is an absolute flawless masterpiece imo. This game has easily the best turn based fighting system ever but thats not all. While this game is percect in every regards imaginable it is especially the almost sandbox approach Larian took that elevates this game above everything I have ever played. The amount of ways you can approach every single combat encounter or quest is ridiculous. You can do so much stuff here Its arguably more than you can even post here.

You made up this concept or its a real thing
