Awards season generally isn’t random, everything is a precursor to another thing. These awards + Golden Globes next weekend will be a precursor to things like SAG, PGA, DGA, etc. and then eventually, it all snowballs to BAFTA and obviously the Oscars.

The local critics group awards were the precursors for this, and there was nothing to indicate Elordi was winning.

It’s not a shocking win because of the performance, it’s a shocking win because it goes against all of the previously established evidence.
