really hope criterion steps up their additions of African cinema, they're solely lacking rn
and pls give us restorations of a confucian confusion and mahjong
not dying peacefully until that happens

classe tous risque and le feu follet. both have blu-rays in europe although the latter looks s*** unless you tweak tv settings

I agree with your sentiment for their releases have always been lackluster when it comes to African/black American auteurs. Gotta feeling all of that will change here in the next coming years because of our social landscape (or at least I hope so). Touki Bouki and Black Girl were impulse buys of course buts that's all she wrote....I haven't had the chance to check out Oscar Micheaux filmography yet. ALSO why isn't Barnett's "Killer of Sheep" available on criterion blu/dvd yet? I've always wondered that.
AND YES! We need The Terrorizers, Confucian Confusion, and Mahjong releases stat! What's your favorite genre/waves/directors as of late? Seems like your B&N purchases have been sporadic like mine this month.

I’ve been going through shinya tsukamoto’s filmog right now, that man is an absolute genius. In terms of criterion I’ve been working my way through the Allan King set, highly recommended. Such a beautiful and sincere style of documentary filming
Also Hyenes (mambety) recently got an excellent restoration, you should check that out for sure
Take a look at jean-marie teno’s work too

Match Factory Girl was great, need another one from him

Wooahhh I've only seen Tetsuo I-II and those films comply went over my head haha. At the time I was really into kinji fukasaku, takeshi beat, yasuzo masumura, seijun suzuki and ANYTHING late 60's/70's yakuza films. Sooo Shinya futuristic experimentation approach to cinema wasn't on my palate yet haha.... need to revisit those. Allan King seems right up my alley I'll definitely look into his eclipse box set.
My recent Eclipses pick ups were Raffaello Matarazzo's Runaway Melodramas and Dušan Makavejev—Free Radical

Like another match factory girl, or just more movies by Kaurismaki? I would recommend the other two movies in that “trilogy”, Ariel and Shadows in Paradise

Just ordered the before trilogy, three colors trilogy, n portrait of the lady (only 1 I’ve seen). Mostly out of curiosity and the fact that other films I wanted (Battle of Algiers, Passion of Joan, Fantastic Planet, Belle de jour, Do the Right Thing) were all unavailable
