Damn i didnt even notice Criterion's new Once Upon a Time in Chine box set cause it's down near the bottom of the page, smh
Definity snagging that asap
woulda been flames if they had the kellogg's K

Not putting how it was Welles' very first venture into film in the description for "The Hearts of Age" in the special features also seems odd to me
I was just scrolling through my Rivette list on LB and realized that some a****** has taken it upon themself to to edit the main title to it's English version that virtually nobody ever uses

People are constantly f***ing with tmdb data to make film info/posters worse i swear

literally never seen this referenced as nor'west in any article, book nor discussion, ever
(perhaps the rivette book by smith & morrey does but in that case i've forgotten about it cause of its irrelevancy)
man what the f***. i s2g somebody on movietown changed the film socialisme poster to the KL blu-ray from the superior original poster. ppl needa f*** off

Yeah ive lost count of how many times someone has changed an original poster or great release/still image design to something that looks like it was made on Snapchat.
It's too annoying when I log on and see someone has f***ed up how my profile looks cause they switched one of my top 4's posters with something generic. I've had to change my faves many times over that s***
The worst example is when they got my ass back-to-back, both with S-H films. I had Fortini/Cani in my faves forever, it had the first frame of the film as the poster for as long as i remember.

And then it changed twice in a week. The second poster was acceptable i guess, but the third (and current) poster...what the f***

So i swapped Fortini/Cani from my favorites and put Kommunisten in it's place. Then a month later that one changed to the exact same algorithm ass style as the last one.
It went from this simplified edit of the film's original ad poster:

To this dumbass A24 Cries & Whispers directed by Ari Aster abomination:

that kommunisten poster is hideous
Fortini/Cani doesn't look bad but it's def a complete downgrade.
these f***ers probably watch a graphic design tutorial on youtube for 20 minutes and make their stupid ass posters for LB
and best believe they'll call themselves "graphic designers". that ari aster comparison is f***ing on point
recent ones im pissed about are fassbinder's despair (it had the cool one with the razor blade in front of dirk bogarde), american soldier (changed to US poster from german) and third generation, which had the clown with the machine gun. these current ones aint it

That Third Generation clown poster was so great. Completely ruined it now.
And I honestly think the super generic "low quality still + filter + block text" type of posters, like those Straub ones above, are being done by a streaming/Amazon web service person/bot to make more Internet searches match the low-effort images they use on their site.
You can scroll through Amazon's Prime Video page that lists Straub-Huillet films they have on their servers (despite almost none of them being available to watch for various reasons), and you will see tons of the same "designs" with a jpeg screenshot and the title in white block text — most of which haven't been changed on tmDB yet
Since so many sites and apps use tmDB's API for metadata, it makes send to me that web service monopolies like Amazon would want it to reflect what they put on their streaming service

that makes sense, esp with them being displayed side by side like that. you def see the uniformity that they're going for. makes searches easier as you said but i think updating the cover/poster to those generic ones makes it look less like "dust"as well and might catch the attention of someone (not necessarily talking about straub-huillet here but other films as well). then again s*** isn't available to watch and probably won't be so what's the point
i can def see someone getting put off by that original Fortini/Cani cover (not that someone is just gonna watch S-H on a whim, or maybe idk) but just as an example, they're probably far from the only ones this has happened to.
