not crazy about those Nicholson westerns at all but I had a very memorable experience with Two Lane Backdrop when I was about 10 and China 9 Liberty 37 is a classic

Two-Lane Blacktop was a real vibe man. It reminded me of going to the drag strip with my pops.

Accidentally caught it on daytime tv when my grandparents were babysitting me and vividly remember the film stock corrosion ending decade and a half later I was like when I finally found it again
