1 - There are currently no Therapeutics or anti virals that can remedy covid-19.

2 - Highly contagious; it may not kill many middle aged or younger ppl, but it still gets people sick, and that's not good for day to day life....so therefore containment has to take place....which leads to shutdown of day to day activities, hampering education, economy and life.

3 - Mutation; this thing can jump from animal to human, and has shown it can go from human to human and even human back to animal. This shows it has, is and will most likely continue to mutate. Hopefully it doesn't mutate into a worse form, but that we don't know at this point. THus, containment has to be taken, and siding on the side of safety and prevention is wise.

4 - Elderly death rate. This thing strikes those who are already sick and those who are older very hard. If you value our older ones, this might have more weight to you, compared to those who don't.
it brings up an interesting moral dilemma, but fact of the matter is, these groups demographis are at a HUGE risk.
If we value their lives, heavy containment and prevention must be taken.

5 - "Regular flu" generally refers to many different types of flus. In the 2018-19 flu seaon, 34 000 people died from all types of coronavirus and flus.
Yes, much more than the current sars-cov-2. But pair that with the fact 34 000 000 total got infected.
The rates for this novel coronavirus are quite high:

This is because there are no current vaccines or therapeutics; see point 1.
Thus why the freak out and resources being spent trying to contain it.

Thanks for that. Good points, but what the original post said is that mortality rates are lower than reported because many people likely get it and arent diagnosed. Isnt this true?

Also, there are numerous ways to calculate how deadly something is. The regular flu is more deadly according to total fatalities per year, no? Perhaps it is less deadly on a case by case basis...

best things you can do to make sure your immune system is functioning as best as it can is:

    Eat healhy/good
    Exercise at least 180 minutes a week / 30 minutes a day
Get your sleep! 7-8 hours helps the body immensely.

Also, what are the therapeutics for the regular flu?

I thought there was no cure for it either?

You are talking about treating the symptoms or what?

What about the ones that got it, passed away, and were marked down as passing away from "pneumonia"?

That line of reasoning can work both ways, and doesn't justify relaxing because there's possibility of counting data being a death rate cause. lol

it is possible, however, but fact is we don't have an immunity to this and containment has to be taken, even if the death rate is lower.

Once again, see my "regular flu" point. Define "regular".
Because regular flu should mean many different strains that we have years of data on.

This we don't. Thus, caution and containment should be in place.

    Quick google search:
"Currently, there are three antiviral d**** recommended for treating the flu: oseltamivir (Tamiflu®), zanamivir (Relenza®), and peramivir (Rapivab®). These d**** work by interrupting the function of neuraminidase on the virus surface and preventing the release of viral particles from infected host cells."

"cure" is a funny word if we say we mean to hae no symptoms or if we mean just to have normal health.

Theraputics help remedy the dieseases cause by nasty viruses. I personally like that word more.

It's more deadly because you're comparing an entire year to 2 months

But if you compare the # of casualties to the total # of infected, the mortality rate is much higher. Look at any virus outbreak in the last couple decades, this is much more infectious and deadly. Not many people that are still alive today have seen a worse virus.

But all this would just be a joke if countries weren't so incompetently led lol. The containment mesures took forever and were half assed. S***'s pathetic.
