This has been the weirdest week. I caught what I have to assume is a bad cold last week, tested negative 4x now, and I still have a clogged ear and congestion but no other telltale Covid symptoms.
Meanwhile, my sister finally caught this s*** at the same time and is boosted up and still feels lethargic as f*** and lost taste
she’s literally the most athletic person I know and is in her early 20s and is out of breath walking to the kitchen rn. I hope she heals up and doesn’t have any long term effects.
I hate to hear that homie. I had the ear s*** too, that’s the craziest thing. I knew it was inflamed but the doc told me my right canal was swollen. Might be the Omicron pt 2, might be the fluvid. Who knows
That’s 1 in every 400 Americans. What’s crazy is I don’t know a single person who’s died from COVID in my life

Count yourself extremely lucky. I know 3 in my family alone

I don’t know anyone that died but I know someone who got F***ED up from it. Could barely walk a month after. They’re okay now though.

Knew somebody who got put into a coma from it. Was only in his 30s.
Anyone have any lasting effects?
About 2 months after I got covid, I had a cyst on my neck, (doctor said it was a second branchial cleft cyst brough on by respiratory tract infection) and lymph nodes behind my jaw, and on my lower neck/shoulder area, get a little swollen and tender and became like the size of a pea. They stayed ever since but the swelling went down until today when I got a stomach bug from my daughter.

those stomach bugs are going around like brazy too, my medical folks have told me
So it’s been a few weeks now since UK and Asia have started another huge surge from the new strain, and in general it seems like average case numbers are either a) still declining b) staying stagnant c) increasing, but at such a minuscule amount in comparison to the last surge.
That combined with Spring weather coming mean we escape another big surge here in the US from the new variant?

What's the new strain called
Anyone have lymph nodes swell after they had covid?? They popped up like two months after covid and The area around stopped swelling but the nodes stayed ever since. It’s been 5 months and I got a bug again recently and the same two got swollen again. Stressing out.
I’m so annoyed by people on both sides of the crazy in regards to Covid
Today it’s the crazies that will never give up an inch that Covid could possibly get better, even with real data — they’re saying that the only reason the US isn’t on the same level case wise with other countries going through massive surges rn is because everyone in the US is at home testing
I’m ok with a) assuming that a surge will come later on (though given that BA.2 is now the dominant strain and numbers on all counts remain close to record lows AND we’re entering Spring/Summer, it seems hard to imagine any “surge” from it would amount to more than a minute speed bump) b) taking a proportional amount of expected at home tests into account when projecting where the US is currently at
But to assume that the positive at home test numbers are large enough to put us back on track for another large surge is hilarious

As a perpetual pessimist about this whole thing, I feel you. BA.2 is (knock on wood) looking like it won’t hit us anywhere near as hard given previously seen trends from new strain spreads. And that’s great! I completely understand anyone who’s wary to trust any kind of good news, but this really does look like a relative bright spot and it’s worth focusing on that.
Obviously, if we’re wrong, we’ll regroup. And it doesn’t hurt to stock up on tests and continue precautions on a personal level. But I really can’t blame anyone who’s taking this as an opportunity to live a bit between surges. Hell, that’s my plan with a trip in about a week that I was worried would have to be postponed up until about a week ago.
