The KTT thread when they announced the lift on restrictions had some pretty apocalyptic visions lol. Haven’t heard anyone acknowledge that Texas is doing fine a month later.

The 7 day average of new cases has actually cut in half since the restrictions were lifted

Obviosly means the more people get together the less the virus spreads. Pretty obvious at this point that's what controls the spread.

I think the restrictions, at least in Texas, weren’t keeping people from getting together, it was just keeping them from getting together at places of business.

I think people are still following guidelines in Texas at MOST places of business...but yes I've said from the beginning most of the spread is probably from people just having kick backs and parties and or hookups. (Thanksgiving surge was directly from that) I don't think most spread is from people not wearing a mask on thier 30 minute trip to the store, where frankly most people don't even speak to spread droplets on a trip to the store.

For me it’s that a lot of the restrictions are kind of bizarre and people work around them anyways.

Like, bars can’t serve alcohol over the counter, but they can still serve alcohol. So at the casino, you order at the bar, then the bartender walks around the bar and hands you your drink instead of just handing it over the bar. That’s a restriction that is really only mildly inconvenient, but why is that even in place? What effect is that supposed to have anyways?

Then, the bars can’t sell alcohol after 11. But the stores inside the casino can still sell alcohol 24/7, so if you want to keep drinking after 11 you just go to the store in the casino and walk back in. Meanwhile actual locally owned bars have to close at 11. So basically the million dollar casinos get to do what they want while the small businesses get shut down. And where do people who want to keep partying go when the small businesses shut down at 11? Either the casinos or house parties.

Some restrictions, like not allowing music festivals or concerts type s***, I get that fully. But some of the stuff is just so weird and pointless

It's just a matter of time until Texas swings back up like every other state that's reopening. It's happening in Florida, which is bringing in double the cases of California with 53% of the population. Texas isn't special. We thought we were special in California last spring and we were wrong.

I believe an aggressive vaccine effort will cap the ceiling of any surge that does take place, so I do think it's fair to begin reopening some sectors, but it would be safer if we kept a "hey, this s*** isn't over yet" mindset for another couple of months. That ship has sailed though.

I think a big part of it is the people who do take the virus seriously probably choosing to stay at home rather than go out which they would if the mask mandate was still implemented.

I don’t think businesses are doing all that well either.

About 36 hours after first Pfizer dose, only side effects were a sore arm for a few hours, and cold-like symptoms. Just a headache and tired really. Nothing crazy
