I don’t even see how this is something conservatives would want, aren’t they supposed to be for local government having more power (relative to upper levels of govt)?

doubtful. teachers make so little as is, they can't afford to lose their job.

Guarantee you some older ones will peace out and take early retirement

Even Trump deadass recommended that at the virtual town hall he did back in May

yeah if you have your masters and tenure and have been working for a good school district for long enough, sure, but i dated a teacher for 7 years and she made half what I do. it was an embarrassingly low wage. they need to pay young teachers better. period.

he has actually been on the up and up as far as governors taking it serious early on- not sure what his messages have been as of recent though. I do like that certain high risk counties are imposing these new laws for public spaces it's just impossible to enforce it on a population that doesnt give af

It's the field I'm going into and this is definitely true if you don't have a MA and especially if you don't work in a district. Charters here pay 45-55k regardless of your education, but an MA in the district will net you a comfortable 65-75k with full benefits. Not great, but OK. I know a teacher that pulls in 95k working at a high school, but he's been at it for 20 years.

Work is damn near impossible to find now though. I've been trying all year and only got a few interviews. This is a time for downsizing, not new hires. Young teachers will inevitably have to accept the risk that tenured teachers heading into retirement balk at, for less pay.

yeah its all about location and credentials with teachers it seems. you probably know even better than I then, if that's what you're going into. it's definitely nothing to scoff at if you've been at it long enough. if you work for private school they will absolutely screw you though, which my ex unfortunately did.

I have a good friend and mentor who works at a rather large charter and he was always looking to get the hell out of there. No job security whatsoever; if they feel they can't pay you what you believe you're worth, they'll find ways to phase you out by piling on extra work, asking you to teach subjects you don't have knowledge of in order to cut costs, etc. Private schools are the same way.

All of the interviews I got were with desperate charters cycling through teachers. Under better circumstances, it wouldn't be hard to find a job in that space. But do you really want one? I have my limits. Another friend of mine worked at one for a month and quit because there was no curriculum in place. Literally none. They were pulling s*** off the internet to teach the kids. Then the founder was charged with fraud and embezzlement lmao

Education is f***ing crazy in LA.

LA education system is so f***ed up lol. Pasadena has tons of money but it all goes into private and charter schools. Our public schools are trash even tho our average income is super high

The Karens of Pasadena and OC are scared of public schools teaching their 13 year olds about evolution and vaginas and want a more "robust" curriculum.

    F***ing idiots.

No arguments here. Also private schools must work differently in different places. My dad currently pulling retirement from a public school system while making over 6 figures at a private school.

The education CAN be better at private schools than public and they usually have better connections to colleges but the teachers get paid, on average, 10-15k LESS than public school teachers. They're essentially trying to sell more expensive meals on the pretense of quality while spending less on ingredients. Chases a lot of good teachers away.

There won't be any significant positive movement until this Oxford vaccine reaches the general public.

There are a couple of interesting d**** on the way that could be helpful, but I don't see them being affordable.
