True, but I make the distinction in my post. On and off triggers for confinement is on the agenda for many countries after the first outbreak: Germany, France, UK... etc.

We’ll see I guess. While the conservatives protesting rn are dumb af, it is true that these lockdowns have huge economic effect (and likely lives lost as a repercussion). If we can effectively pull off some kind of testing, tracing, and active containment program, I could see a new “normal” with social distancing baked in not be too bad. Like how parts of China are atm

Ever since last week, they reconsidèred their position about the whole thing. Why? Vaccines require long time for testing; lots of scientists are against accelerating the process, because safety assurance requires long studies. WHO also realises that for a vaccine to work, you will have to vaccinate globally. A global mass production of something like a vaccine is something unprecedented in modern history and will require immense power. This is unlikely with the the United States being a derelict
About your second point, it’s Neil Ferguson who said that future outbreaks will force us to go on lockdowns again and again. We will have to see what happens in Germany in the next few weeks to assess the situation
