In my last semester of uni and damn I miss campus life just being out and about all the time

Can someone explain to me the IMHE models. I see people say that it included social distancing in the 2.2 million deaths and others say it didn’t. I’m trying to make sense of all this because I constantly see how a lot of the models were faulty and can’t get a clear answer.

the way they calculate/report the official unemployment rate is very misleading

there's the official unemployment rate which is what is always reported and there is a "real" unemployment rate that more accurately reflects actual joblessness and is always significantly higher

At this section, Factors Associated With Mortality in COVID-19

They preface by claiming for all influenzas heart issues are a bigger killer then pneumonia

I guess it’s hard to really discern if the virus is actually attacking the heart or it’s just because the body is under so much stress that it causes people’s heart to fail.

Apparently the mechanism for which viruses attack the heart is called Myocarditis. They cite a study that says they’ve seen this in patients using some bio markers unique to myocarditis versus non viral cardiac arrest... I think, unsure how this works.

This is money shot stats from the paper right here taken from another study, 20 times higher mortality

“Patients with cardiac injury had a higher incidence of ARDS (58.5% vs 14.7%; P < .001) and a higher mortality rate (51.2% vs 4.5%; P < .001)”

“Mortality was significantly higher in individuals with high TnT (heart disease biomarker) vs those with normal TnT levels (59.6% vs 8.9%, respectively; P < .001)”

All though from my understanding they are referring to existing cardiac injuries not ones caused by the virus. I think

Also they mention patients getting dropped from a study because they had heart attacks before the study began? Wonder how often that happens

So in conclusion heart disease is undoubtedly the greatest risk factor for mortality (not the most common that’s still diabetes... but the most deadly) and half as many people dying from pneumonia respiratory complications are dying from cardiac failure.

Could explain some of the videos we saw out of China of people dropping in the street.

I’d like to see some post mortem antibody tests on recent heart attacks victims I think this is being unexplored and good severely impact case fatality
