    https://www.who.int/dg/speeches/detail/who-director-general-s-opening-remarks-at-the-media-briefing-on-covid-19---11-march-2020
"Of the 118,000 cases reported globally in 114 countries, more than 90 percent of cases are in just four countries, and two of those – China and the Republic of Korea - have significantly declining epidemics.
81 countries have not reported any cases, and 57 countries have reported 10 cases or less. We cannot say this loudly enough, or clearly enough, or often enough: all countries can still change the course of this pandemic."

These stats aren’t great when US is barely testing for s***. There’s at least thousands of cases here already

Right below the map. 80% that get infected are mild cases won’t need hospitalization. Note this does not mean 20% of the population will die. Also most people won’t even get this, so 😌 sleep easy. Get a few extra groceries, stay alert for your old relatives. It’ll be ok.

Well when there’s only been 1300ish cases so far in US that’s not that crazy. Obviously numbers will go up.

Also WHO has “15% have worse cases which may or may not need hospitalization while only 5% are viewed as auto hospitalized. Totally depends on how many people end up getting this if that matters or not.

South Korea has done a great job and already has declining numbers.

Facts vs. opinion, of course the numbers aren't fully there cause of the lack of medical awareness, supplies, etc. but we CAN decline the spread of it and not cause it to become worse than it already is

There is some truth to what SC is saying and what Jey is saying.

I believe that the statistics, shared and backed by multiple sources, have confirmed that elderly people (65+ years of age) and those of all ages with compromised immune systems for any reason are at much higher risk than young and healthy people.

I also believe that the major aspect of this virus that people are going to need to be worried about has nothing to do with getting sick. The overwhelming changes to our daily lives for the coming days, weeks, or (God forbid) months, are going to have the biggest impact on the largest number of Americans.

Not being able to work, not being able to pay bills, food shortages, other resource shortages, lack of health care for those exhibiting symptoms, and an administration that has no intention of telling the truth at any point during this saga are all much bigger threats to the American public than the actual virus.

All we can do at this point is be vigilant. Pay attention to the data. Take precautionary measures. Fact check quotes you see online. Get your information from multiple sources. Do the responsible thing and stay home if you are exhibiting symptoms. Wash your hands. Check up on loved ones. Be safe and be smart.

Take it from an Italian, STAY THE F HOME. Stop downplaying it, it's real and closer than you think.
Yes staying home is depressing, but it's way better than being bedridden in hospital or having your parents/grandparents die from it.
It's all joke till it's not.

  • Mar 12, 2020

does he not understand how many people that “20%” could grow to if countries don’t do everything in their power to halt the spread

  • Mar 12, 2020

In a heartless sense this is another downside of it's mildness. It's not like SARS or MERS that had way higher mortality rates; that meant firstly it debilitated symptomatic people so they couldn't wander around and spread it and secondly that people weren't clogging up hospitals.

  • Mar 12, 2020

Prayers to our elders and Italy but we should still take the proper precautions & take care of our people and not let fear cloud our logic

South Korea was able to give out free testing, communicate clearly with its citizens, and did its due diligence to slow it down.

The US is not fit handle this

    Keep up.

Either way, that 20 or more % can overwhelm an entire healthcare system. That’s what is important.

It’s not “20% or more”. Once again u don’t read or just lie. It’s MAX 20% and the WHO site itself only says 5% are auto hospitalized.
