Great read imo, I pretty much agree. The way we’re “fighting” this (locking everything down) vs preferentially protecting the highest risk individuals, and in turn causing the death of many small businesses, large businesses, etc is a horrible way to go. Also touches on how the health care system will crash and when a vaccine is released people fighting to get it will vs the proportion of people still getting the virus and needing beds will make it crash again

It's not just the elderly. Anyone who has some kind underlying health problem could be at risk. Hell the virus has killed people who have had no previous health issues.

I think it was a case where the US had to act fast and closing everything down was the fastest option.

It will f*** up our economy for a while and a lot of buisnesses will go under which is sad but something had to be done to contain the spread.

Also some things like health care crash were things that were going to happen eventually. There is a lot of things in the US that straight up aren't sustainable and this has shown the cracks in a big way.

Yeah they go a bit into the extremely rare cases of younger people dying and explained a method of shifting protecting them as well if it is found that we are also highly at risk under certain circumstances. Basically once it is understood enough and detectable, keep those people as safe as possible. The reality is, for most of us, this has NOT been as fatal as it is for elderly.

The main focus was mostly on societal collapse rather than economical, the effects, I truly believe, of keeping people locked in this way will be unimaginable on certain areas as a whole.

To me, the US’s response has come off as nothing but reactionary and a panic. We haven’t even come close to the countries that have gotten this more under control significantly like China and SK. And China has far, far more people than us, so hypothetically, could have faced unfathomable devastation. They’re back to business as usual for the most part according to my friend who lives in Shanghai.

I hope this event will be the catalyst to huge reforms of US medical stuff in general. Not just healthcare but our entire medical industry is so f***ed

I mean of course it was a reactionary move, you have a virus coming to your country that no one knows what it really is that is making people extremely ill and/or killing them. Again it was a case where the US had to react fast and that probably will have huge rammifications later on but it had to be done.

What this moreso exposes is how the way the US works does NOT work and will crumble in a minute in any type of event like this.

While the whole world will experience huge economical problems the US is gonna be in a world of hurt in the coming months.

I really want things to get back to normal so we all can have fun this summer. However some things should change.

-Lower airfare prices. Right now there really cheap domestic flights. It seriously sucks when you are trying to plan a vacation but you have to pay at least $400 for a plane ticket.

-Some of the grocery stores around me are dedicating a special time for the elderly to shop. That needs to stay permanent. It would make it easier for old people to shop and for people that are in a hurry because old people tend to take a longer time.

-Handwashing. Everyone is just now properly washing their hands. It should f***ing stay like that.

-Sneezing and coughing into elbows. Didn’t see a lot of people do that until now lol.

Besides top government officials, I seriously doubt anyone else in NK has any idea what’s going on lol
