i once bought a friend i introduced doom to, a madvillainy cassette which we used to listen to on an old radio by the water while downing a few beers on a hot summer day. nothing better
it is honestly DISGUSTING how good the 2003-2004 run is - within two years we had Take Me to Your Leader, Vaudeville Villain, Madvillainy, Venomous Villain and Mm..Food
all of which are absolutely incredible
so thankful we got to experience this, Dumile really blessed us
Doom got the best fanbase

I had a deep call with Madlib yesterday, a free wheeling conversation that, of course, focused on DOOM and how confounding and complicated this last week has been – which, as I’ve seen many note, describes how any real relationship with the man behind the mask was.
I remembered, at that moment, something I hadn’t heard in a while, and I went to my test press archive – I keep a test press of every record I work on, and have been doing so for over 20 years now – and there they were: the two versions of STH2064 you see here, Madvillain “Money Folder.”
That’s my handwriting you see there – I tried to label each record as they came in - and, as you see, the dates are one month apart…. there is the original version, and “version #2.” We had mastered and pressed the first version of “Money Folder” – the first vocal performance DOOM did – but it never made it beyond the test press phase. I think we made five of them. Then DOOM re-recorded his vocals, changing the pitch and attack of his voice, and altering some words. That was the version that made it to the album, and the former version was forgotten about.
I gave one of the test presses to @jrocc210 and I remember him doing the most masterful blend of the two versions on the “Friday Night Flavors” radio show he and his crew did on Power 106 FM, alternating between the two vocal performances. I’ve included some snippets here – swipe left – and also the inscribe. I would love it if someone would update Discogs with that information, as I’m too much of a luddite to do so myself.
after Egon posted this..Quasimoto account posted a loop of Quas playing Madvillainy on vinyl
been listening to red and gold so much I totally forgot how this song made me feel

born like this is my least fav
and danger doom should get more love too. I used to smoke and watch billy and mandy and I'd listen to danger doom before calling it a day
not the most productive s*** but it was good for what it was

I used to do the same, except I’d watch aqua teen right after lol. Good times. I’ve been going back through his discog lately, I need to revisit Danger Doom fr, been far too long.
