My initial thoughts and song rating
When rap duos or group make a comeback after 10-15+ years, my experience is that it's more often a miss rather than hit, so I kept my expectations somehow low for this one.
But boy did they deliver! It's not LW or HHNF levels, but I don't think that was ever the goal with this one. Malice is the highlight on this album to me, shows he still is a S-tier rapper, and in another world he is one of the greatest of all time.
The Birds Don't Sing - Beautiful song, production is heavenly. Not what you expect from Clipse but makes sense they made this the opener to set the tone. 8/10
Chains & Whips - Heard this so many times but will be one of those tracks you go back to in a few years. K Dot killed his verse. 8/10
P.O.V. - Production is insane this, the beat switch as well. This quickly became one of my favorites on this joint and Tyler really showed why he belongs as a feature on this album. 9/10
So Be It - I've said it earlier, and say it again, this is one of the best tracks in their discography. Unbelievably hard song. This track screams hip hop and I'll forever be thankful for this Pharrell beat. 10/10
Ace Trumpets - This song grew heavily on me the past weeks. Malice again outshines Push, his verse is on rotation. Great single as well. 7/10
All Things Considered - Bars are hard, but this is easily the worst track on the album IMO and mainly because of the beat that is kind of lackluster, as well as P's hook. 6/10
M.T.B.T.T.F - I've been writing about this song on here since we heard the short snippet of Pharrell in the LV offices a few years ago. Really glad they included this in the album, will probably one of my most played Clipse songs. Also MALICE again - god damnit what a verse. This song is everything I love with Push and Clipse. 10/10
E.B.I.T.D.A - Really, really love this beat and Pharrell floats well on this. Will get back to this one a lot I think. Only bad thing is that it's too short. I will never not love Pushas finance references lol. 7/10
F.I.C.O. - One of the stronger ones on the album. Stove God fits perfectly with that hook, but kinda wish he had his own verse as well. Beat is great. 8/10
Inglorious B******s - I f***ing love this song lmao, this is vintage Clipse to me with the horns. Ab Liva floating as well, song is just too short to me. 7/10
So Far Ahead - I don't know, sounds like a slower version of Ace Trumpets without the same energy although great bars from both. An OK hook by Pharrell. This one I don't see myself going back to. 6/10
Let God Sort Em Out/Chandeliers - Production is insane on this one, and ominus back and forth bars by both of them. I feel like Nas (on of my GOATs) could've done better though, especially on that very Nas specific beat lol. All in all a very good song. 7.5/10
By The Grace Of God - Good outro, and IMO a beautiful hook by Pharrell. Ties well with the album but doesn't stand out in any way. 7/10
All in all a very strong "comeback"-album which met my expectations.
Fan bases don’t even remotely overlap
666 disrespect
good album. like ace trumpets more in the context of the album. Some moments I'm a little iffy on but overall a more than respectable clipse comeback album.
So glad the original one got cleared lol. This sounds as if I made the beat and put the So Be It acapella on it
