Broooo first clipse album in 15 years and I did a 12 hour day prior and fell asleep smh so mad at myself
I'm going to run this back listen to Push and Malice raps, because my main focus was the production first.
the back and forth on ebitda
malice grew up on contra line mirroring the push line on lunch money
Great catch I knew that rang a bell
I think when you're a publication embedded in as much modern music history as a place like Pitchfork, you should hold a sense of responsibility to your reader, though. And to the art, too!!! That's the essence of having a platform. It feels wholy dishonest to say "we're gonna put the guy that hates everything on the big albums so we get more ad revenue." An artist's work is intrinsically linked with the reception of that work and that conversation should be taken super seriously.
At the end of the day I agree with you, though. A critic's review isn't going to change my opinion because I'm gonna like what I like and listen to what I like.
I have two things (perhaps slightly hypocritical to each other...) to say here
Any words about an album feel reductive to the art itself, you should be able to listen to the album and feel your emotions (goosebumps, euphoria, dancing, rapping along etc.) and that should be the point, a tone deaf review doesn't change that
At the same time I think dissenting voices like Alphonse are important to hip hop, these songs are built on years of references and inside jokes and importantly dissenting voices (from the artist, the fans, the media, government etc.) maybe you can say hip hop would be in a better place if everyone was moving in the same direction but it's a hypothetical, and I enjoy hip hop as it is
Bruises, scars and all
You're crazy
Pt.2 has horrendous mixing. It makes it unlistenable
About to listen to on my cracked android speaker
is EBITDA the first Clipse song with both of them going back and forth like that? that was so gnarly

Alphonse Pierre when an album isn't from an ironic regional rapper reading Twitter punchlines with the worst flow you ever heard

this is culturally inappropriate
