Echo is pure Broadcast LARP
Kind of a whatever album overall though, nothing that leaves too much of an impression
Album should've been called "The Bounce Back" because god damn she did so in an impressive way
this album f***in blew me away man. listening to this while doing chores around the house with the summer weather… vibes were through the roof
whole album is so fuzzy thank you for the summer soundtrack
warmest sonics, love it
Wow this is great album. this is type of album i wanted from her since her last album. i think she delivered
I read that this album was recorded live on a***og tape. Anyone know if there any special reason that they did this way? Since it’s mostly digital recording techniques that use nowadays.

Gives the songs recorded on tape a warm vintage texture. Not as clean as microphones going into a software like pro tools but quality downsides end up actually giving it the vintage sound. Similar with directors wanting to shoot on film despite it being less clear, harder and more expensive than digital.
You can get pretty close with digital effects but there’s a flavour to tape that is special
Adrienne Lenker, Mac Demarco etc have talked about recording live on a***og tape and loving it. Wouldn’t be surprised if that Silk Sonic album was all a***og too
It also forces you have to be really tight with performing and being able to record the song in one take with a band which I’m sure people like, as a way to freshen things up when making another album.
I didn’t know about clairo using tape but you can definitely tell on Juna
s*** is so warm. Straight out of the 70s

in that link it says " NY. Producer Michels, a renowned soul revivalist who boasts work with funk legend Sharon Jones and The Black Keys, was enlisted to lead the strictly-analogue recording process"
