Oh so it wasn't just me who felt the music was too loud. I didn't even see it in IMAX and it was still painful. Was plugging my ears with my fingers frequently. I think buddy has hearing damage if he didnt think that s*** was loud.

Despite Kubrick being an influence, the guy is much closer to Mann, Scott, and Malick. Took everything that made those guys tick and got weird with it by incorporating recurring motifs of time that almost feel borrowed from Resnais and other European arthouse directors, while re contextualizing them into genre epics.

It only makes sense Nolan goes into horror after this. He’s already gone sci-fi epic, space epic, war epic, spy/espionage sci-fi epic, historic drama epic, fantasy epic. Can’t wait to see him pull off some Wailing tier f***ery

Idk why people won't just say Ridley Scott

Ridley has really inconsistent directorial flourishes outside of frenetic/dark camerawork (mostly in his 21st century stuff), and understanding scale which I guess Nolan takes from. That first part feels reductive cause Nolan’s grading is only cause he’s red/green color blind

As far as being an eclectic British director goes. Nolan will have to direct for another 25 years however.
