Especially with some of the talk about horror-ish elements, better safe than sorry lol

  • TsunamiPapi

The cyclops scene with the imax audio

cyclops scream and talking was genuinely haunting

  • I still haven’t seen Oppenheimer 🥶 which I’m sure is quite linear but this felt like one of the more linear easy to track Nolan films I can remember

On top of that, despite time being quite meaningful to the journey, it felt like his use of time here was a bit less heavy handed then it usually is

  • love that after all the bullshit they had already went through bro was like TIE ME TO THE MAST with a f\*\*\*ing smile on his face lmao

  • this is not an alt

Nolan took a very personal emotional poem about a man's yearning for return, stripped it of its core mechanics (the intrigues, the dialogue the driving forces) added CGI by the bucketload + a Viking Ship from the 11th century AD and called it a day.

If I had to draw an a***ogy it's like Murder on the Orient Express with Albert Finney as Poirot vs Ken Branagh's Murder on the Orient Express.

One stays faithful to the source material and pays an homage to Agatha Christie's work with Albert Finney being the golden standard as Poirot (till David Suchet came to the scene who lived in the part for a quarter century). In fact Christie actually endorsed the film (she was very critical of film adaptations of her work) but jested that the mustache was not glorious enough.

The other is an uber engineered wide lense film with helicopter shots where Branagh is butchering Poirot's character.... with a budget of about 90mn most of it going to CGI and green screens.

One is about characters and texture, the other is about CGI and architecture. Ditto Homer's The Odyssey vs Nolan's The Travesty.

So I will be skipping this.... Perhaps I will give it a watch on streaming services if I have 30 mins to kill and there's nothing better to do.

Very good points here, but I feel like I have to interject & say
