even when his influences were glaring they at least kept him focused on 'one thing'. AML was a play by play of all types of funk music but at least it was consistent and warranted a full play through. 31520 had prince all over it but still came out very cohesive. BTI obviously feels connected because it's a narrative play. this one is such a scattershot that I dont really want to play it in its entirety, just too much going on for my liking

A great album that was poorly marketed. Him not dropping at the peak of his popularity in 2018 was probably the dumbest move possible. Someone like Donald that is solely at this point more revered for what he’s done outside of music, should have not done the surprise drop s***.

No I’m saying that him not dropping an album after This is America/Feels like Summer was not a smart move because he had the whole world paying attention to him at that time. But instead he disappeared and dropped a demo project in the beginning of COVID with no marketing whatsoever that very few listened to. People dead don’t know son dropped music post Feels Like Summer lol

idk I never bought this thing about demo project and how it came out not in a traditional manner and therefore it was bad. first and foremost, his dad died at that time. im pretty sure he wasnt in a mood exactly to go on a bunch of interviews to talk about his job

second, this was during covid which meant that (speculation) he probably wasnt sure how to move in this environment at all and clearly wanted to try something else other than dumbass zoom interviews they were doing during that time

finally, 3.15.20 sold like 10k less than this new album and this one had a much more comprehensive rollout which just leaves me to think his fanbase doesnt pull up for his releases like that (in part because hes mysterious yes). like Redbone was a worldwide phenomenon more than 6 months after AML came out and it did less than 100k first week im p sure

idk my opinion has always been that 3.15.20 was a good album all along and it was just hard to put it in any kind of category bc it was too out of nowhere so ppl dismissed it as bad or whatever
