I too have noticed that the vocals feel different on this album compared to his previous efforts

I’m not an expert in the field so I’m not gonna pretend to know why this is the case, I am not technically inclined to talk about it

It’s not just the really obvious tracks like Alone Again or Too Late, it’s subtle usage if auto tune/vocal processing during the verses of Blinding Lights, Escape From LA, in your face, dry vocal mixing on After Hours, Snowchild

I love this record but I def notice a difference in the vocals on this record

well, there's less of his highest register on this album (he still got it, Hold Your Heart from IG live).
secondly, illangelo f***s up a lot of vocal mixing: on snowchild,heartless(hook),after hours intro and outro (not falsetto).
escape from la hook is weird as well.
The only tracks that are 100% good sounding are the ones not mixed by illangelo . Max martin tracks sound the best, aside from Scared to live which has some weird filter.

this is true, not sure why this is the case because the production/mixing on the instrumentals are as great as always, maybe illangelo is trying something new when mixing vox, or it's a production choice on Abel's part, he produced a lot on this record too

and you're right about the max martin tracks, non vocal wise Hardest To Love is the best sounding track on the album next to the title track

I think that the vocal mix on Alone Again and Too Late is intentional to give that type of atmospehre.
But idk how Escape from La,Heartless,Snowchild,IYE and BL have weird vocal mixes,they sound amazing
Maybe im not listening right but they sound vocally great.
Also yeah the Max Martin tracks are the most polished ones i agree.

i'll make a breakdown. i don't wanna sound like an a****** and brag but i have a good ear for music.
1. Alone Again 1st part - Abel tryna sound broken and you can hear his pain, mixing on point. 2nd part - heavily processed (intentional to give it an ethereal , spacey feel)
2.Too Late > intro with no effects, heavy processing after the first hook till the song's end (same thing as in alone again)
3. Hardest to Love > crisp vocals, no issues here/
4. Scared to Live > great vocals by Abel, but there's an oldschool-ish filter on his voice.
5. Snowchild > very weird vocal mixing, dunno if it's the frequency of his voice but it's sometimes hard for me to listen to this song.
6.Escape > no issues
7.Heartless > no issues apart from the hook.
8.Faith > actually amazing mixing.
9.BL > amazing vocal mixing/track not mixed by Illangelo.
10. In your eyes > superb vocals,mix
11.SYT > same
12.RAM inter > good, again not mixed by Illangelo
13.title track > same as snowchild on the intro and bridge .
14.Until i Bleed out > fine as well, mixed by the same guy that mixed RAM inter.

Yeah only vocal I have a problem with is scared to live. But that’s just because we heard it so clean on the live version.

Scared to Live actually makes me mad because of that last chorus, where he hits that note so f***ing good it spoiled me for wanting s*** like that the whole album lmao
