i thought it was alright too but when ppl like dude on last page act obtuse as to why s1 was a misdirection and is surprised people think movie looks vastly better than s1 is when it gets annoying lol

Nah I get it, I enjoyed it for what it was, but the critique around the direction was really valid. I really feel like it was only a loud minority that actually HATED everything about the anime with their whole being, and I’m not really a fan of people holding onto this narrative to exegerrate the negative reception of S1

This isn’t the only anime that had an adaptation that wasn’t faithful to the source material. On top of the adaptation being unfaithful, I think Ryu Nakayama’s comments about anime in general is what actually garnered him so much hate and made the situation worse than what it could have been.

The things we have seen so far look amazing and obviously the hardcore fans are going to be happier with someone else at the helm this time

eh can't really say it was a loud minority thing because the japanese fanbase were the most vocal about it and csm is extremely popular in japan in terms of sales

you can also tell the reception reflected this because the blu-ray sales for the anime were also extremely low. even bocchi the rock which was airing at the same time as the chainsaw man anime blu-rays outsold csm's by a lot

but enough about s1 direction we about to eat with this movie regardless

I think It's bc Asa is developing feelings for Denji, which in turn is affecting Yoru - just last chapter Yoru backs out of turning Denji into a weapon (while blushing I might add).

Yea thats probably it. Her feelings for Denji were pretty clear when she refused to turn him into a weapon but I didn’t make the connection that she completely forgot about nuclear weapons in the process. Her “remembering” is probably because she sensed the fear of nuclear weapons being restored

The streaming numbers and success of the show showed the haters that people still enjoyed the hell out of the anime.

conveniently leaving out that the show was heavily promoted by netflix and is like top 5 most watched shows on that platform
