It's really easy to see why CSM failed. Nakayama basically spit on the source material and turned it into something completely different. Look at all the colour in the CSM manga.

All of that colour was stripped because apparently Nakayama has the mind of a 12 year old and thinks that colors = immature and no colors = mature.
The strawman about expressive faces that everyone uses has me convinced that anybody who uses that argument hasn't even read the manga. Nobody who laments the lack of expressive faces throughout the anime wants chibi faces, they just want any semblance of expression and energy. The more subdued, less expressive tone of the anime is nothing close to what the manga is like, and frankly, anyone who says it is is either lying to themselves, didn't read the manga, or is blind. There's a reason why people say that the CSM EDs, and ED 3 in particular, represent CSM better than the actual anime.

There is nothing wrong with a "mature", "cinematic", and subdued approach to anime, but using that approach on something like CSM was just a straight up stupid decision. Also, anyone who blames "the Japanese" and thinks subdued approaches to anime doesn't work on a cultural level is at best massively ignorant of the anime industry and at worst xenophobic. Nakayama's approach to the CSM anime is nothing new in the landscape of the industry and similar anime has been successfully made for decades.
^ Yeah, I've been saying this. The muted nature of the show is such a contrast to the vibrant, off-the-wall nature of the manga.
The story is so ridiculous and over the top that the overly serious tone just doesn't fit, imo.

If you liked that aspect of show, I feel like you'll love the manga. Give it a shot.
part 2 somehow better than part one, which i think doesnt actually take off until the tournament arc

bro thought he was directing Psycho Pass
Director said he hated anime UWU exaggerated faces and wanted it to be realistic like film.
Japan audience hated him for it.
Plus arguably the source material covered is the most boring part of the series since it's the start.
Them pivoting direction in the anime is going to be a good thing? I thought the anime was fine but I'm hoping they can lean into the zaniness a bit more, while retaining some of the more sombre beats.

I honestly think the manga isn't that zany for what the anime covered this season. It's not until the bomb arc that the extreme moments are turned up 10x
Most of the moments in the chapters are serious moments as well.
These initial chapters also just have run of the mill Shonen battles with some funny jokes in there.
I actually appreciate the director being a hater of current anime and talked his s***. We all here talk so much s*** on how the industry is being ran and developed, but the moment a director thinks he's above it people get into a s*** fit

Fujimoto PR for Mappa to go ahead with their direction lol
this chapter had me f***ing wheezing, these niggas are so f***ing insane
Also
EDIT: I'm 100% sure Quanxi and Reze are alive now holy f\*\*\*
Just want to say I was keeping an eye on this thread like a year before the anime didn't think it would live up to the hype. Definitely my favorite anime right now.

I just peeped that’s Kobeni’s lil bro, those hair clippers got to be hereditary. Even her lil sis got one too.

I’ve consumed both, and I liked both equally
The anime excels in how it’s adapting the tone, pacing, and demeanor of the characters in its depiction. Definitely wasn’t as colorful as I was expecting initially, but I like what it did.
I didn’t know people disliked the anime? Thought it was universally loved. I never came away from an episode feeling disappointed in the slightest.

S***'s so wild, I never know what to expect
I don't understand why the manga can't be it's own thing and the anime be it's own thing. what's wrong with the anime having a unique take on the source material?
different =/= bad and even in tranquility's post he isn't calling the anime bad. he's just upset that it isn't the same exact vibe and tone as the manga
season 1 was amazing and breath of fresh air compared to literally every season 1 of all of the other major shonen that have come out in the last decade

cos its anime adaptation of the manga not a "this is my interpretation of chainsaw man"
cos its anime adaptation of the manga not a "this is my interpretation of chainsaw man"
if that's the case then they should hire fujimoto as the director
you hire anyone else and it's going to be an interpretation. every anime is an interpretation because it's two completely different mediums. manga and anime don't and never will translate 1:1

There's a tone of "it's not like the manga, so it's worse" for majority of people who are vocal about it online
Bro said spit on the source material lmao
