I think they are just trying to move away from the core console market in general, they stated a while ago they don’t even consider Sony their main competitor, they are looking towards amazon/google/Apple more

If I’m Microsoft I see the low cost of entry broad gaming market as more attractive in the long run (10+ years), eventually every household will have some sort of gaming device. After spending the entire last console generation getting s*** on by the core gaming market (small percentage of revenue potential + vocal minority) I would be saying peace as well

imo the average individual (me) is too lazy or broke to build a sustainable PC that’ll even rival or compare to the consoles’ graphics

See the thing is that a $700 or $800 pc can run decent enough graphics as a console, but the curve of building one for that cheap is exponentially way harder than buying and pluggin in a console. If you wanted to do that with a custom pc with same specs and pre-built and launch ready then the s***s gonna be 1200 minimum which keeps people out. Xbox is making smart moves.

While I think it’s not a good business move to announce this right now, Xbox has a long term vision for moving to services and away from consoles.

Having free exclusives ready to stream anywhere at anytime is a good idea.

On the other hand:

Sony making their fans pay $500+ for a small list of exclusives and a few of those will be delayed/canceled and a couple are just timed exclusives.

Rather pay $500 on a console that will last a decade and pay and own my games instead of paying monthly fees to play my games.

In the end Microsoft is gonna take your money, difference you dont own your games anymore.
