I was just using it as an example of house fans feeling like a mainstream artist got it right rather than it being about a specific genre of house. Ye did get flack from those same people for Stronger though lol

But for a more recent project the way Dua Lipa put together that Club Future Nostalgia album seemed to get a good response from those types of house fans. So it can be done

I just think people don't like it when they feel like their subculture is being given a mainstream moment in a way that doesn't communicate the things they love about it. But at the same time artists taking what they want from genres and turning it into their own thing has created some of the best pop music so I can't be mad at it personally.

Outside of a few moments like the drop on Calling My Name it seems like it's technically house but with none of that feeling. You can hear the house influence but it's hard to imagine most of the best house artists sounding like this
