most mainstream rappers today are basically brands. how do you think artists like yachty are still afloat? he sold his persona instead of his raps, and he's doing damn well for himself.

His music/branding has evolved to capitalize on the kids who would’ve been pop punk fans in the early 2000s

Those are the kids who stan him and turned him into a meme, no doubt about it

We know how dedicated the pop punk fans were to the music, so much so that they basically modeled their personalities after it, which a lot of cartis core fans do

He’s one of those artists who being a fan of them really be a personality trait + adding in that Frank ocean type air of mystery, it’s a wash

He built a whole cult fanbase off straight vibes basically

Nah bro, pop punk fans are still pop punk fans now lol, this s*** sounds nothing like pop punk

His fanbase is kids who were on soundcloud 2014-2016 listening to awful records etc, plus some younger fortnite kids who started listening around magnolia, plus wannabe internet fashion kids who comment on Ian Connor's pics like they know him personally and buy Number (N)ine mickey mouse hoodies on grailed

Die Lit is lyrically abstract and far beyond anyone else in his lane is doing . You really think this won’t be a further extension of that?

exactly, I'm not hating, it works for him

I just genuinely think he's talented enough to actually make punk-ish music or at least something new, and I wonder why he lets punk s*** inspire everything BUT the music

punk doesn't really require talent. that's a big basis for the original genre and culture-- that anyone could've picked up a guitar and make a band in their garage and jam out.

the reality is that being original or experimenting means a potential backlash. yeah, his core stans might eat up whatever he decides to drop, but staying the course means a more stable income from casual listeners (most of the time). unfortunately. it's easier to put a veil over it to allure listeners and make them stay with the same s*** you've been doing all these years.

I agree with you that punk's whole thing was that it doesn't require talent but that's where the similarities end for me

His branding has evolved though, he experimented with that, he even looks different than he did in the beginning of his career so I'm just confused why the music hasn't evolved to keep up, bc clearly it would still sell as long as the image is still there
