That's a crazy drive, have fun
You gonna cut through the US at all or just Canada?
Havenāt decided yet, it all depends on political climate I guess? Donāt want to deal with the hassle. Itās definitely a lot quicker to cut through Maine but Iāve also done the drive from Halifax to Toronto so many times that I might stay south of the border for some time through Vermont/New Hampshire/New York just for a nice change of scenery

Plenty of border trips happen everyday without incident, but you never know what kind of s***ty border patrol guy you're gonna get on a given day, especially for a cross country road trip that's less rigid
Carney speech went so hard. We are so lucky
genuinely smart guy
Imagine what Pierre would have said up there
times will be tough but there is a path forward

While it's nice to see Carney take shots at American hegemony, lets evaluate him based on how he governs rather than how he speaks. Don't see how we're lucky to have yet another neoliberal PM cutting corporate taxes and public service jobs while committing to building more pipelines in the year 2026

As bad as it sounds they are all going to be neocon scumbags but at least this is the best of that bunch
I know it sounds defeatist but even jagmeet who everyone said is a super socialist blah blah at the end of the day was a corporate shill

It was a cool speech though again, I don't see why we should be praising him like that. We've already seen this act from Carney. His whole campaign was about "elbows up" yet what has he done except capitulate to Trump? Just 2 weeks ago he was celebrating the US attack on Venezuela while countries like Brazil and Mexico condemned it. Cost of livings still crazy, Canada still supports American imperialism over the Global South, we're not trying to decouple from fossil fuels (actually doing the opposite), we're talking about "strong borders" + the need for increased surveillance and cracking down on immigration, s***s not getting better under Carney man. He's more toned down on the culture war stuff ofc but is not that different from PP

you're entitled to your opinion, and if you're looking at it 2000km bird's eye view, you're not wrong. They are probably similar
I think PP is different in the sense because he genuinely is dumb and is a husk with catch phrases. Carney is educated, has some serious world experience and relevant job training.
I'm not a Carney fan boy btw. I would have voted PP over Trudeau if those were the options.
I don't think Carney will do much to alleviate grocery prices, gas prices , house prices on account of he is boys with the billionaires and it's a multi faceted issue , but I do think he will make deals to push Canada in the right direction
I could be totally wrong and he may very well be another scumbag. We're so tied to the usa that we have to bend the knee but hopefully a more diversified future means we won't have too

the speech wasnāt anything new it was really well articulated but the fact that a liberal prime minister said it speaks volumes and u can cope with his milquetoast critique of the previous international system does imo indicate some reservations and thoughts how the losers of that system were treated (more do so to the reason if he wants to create an alternative bloc he has to acknowledge some of this) either way itās something i donāt see any other candidate doing just due to Carney being a central banker and understanding the international system than any other choice we had.
Domestically he hasnāt been anything new, but i do appreciate him breaking the canadian tradition of following daddy britain or big brother america on the geopolitical scene, whether this leads to anti-imperalism (prob not), a revival of the non-aligned bloc, or maybe just straight out annexation from americans. He should have rejected the board of peace before getting kicked from Trump at least just from pragmatic political standpoint thatāll back up the speech he made

Agree that no other PM would've delivered such a speech, whether or not he follows it up by taking real steps to break from American dependence is tbd. Lowering tariffs on Chinese EVs is a good start, need more of that. Join the belt and road
