I feel like people had lofty expectations for a snoop p collab album only for him to be singing a lot over these upbeat records and it was coming off of P’s happy/GIRL era and the Snoop Lion era. I feel like people wanted an actual Snoop rap project too after that which we’ve gotten a few times since like Neva Left. I think people would be way more receptive to it now

idk, people were still checking for Snoop back then. it wasn't too far removed from when he was still commercially relevant, which ain't really the case anymore

Yeah that’s true but I remember the attitude being like wtf is he doing after Reincarnated and people wanting an actual rap project. So this was basically the opposite of that especially cus it was way heavier on the singing and he was basically a vehicle for Pharrell’s ideas, instead of something like Beautiful where he’s just doing the verses. It didn’t have a song like that outside of like Peaches n Cream and really stuck to its style. I feel like with streaming era now a project like this would have a better time with audiences

You’re definitely right about Pharrell. During that time he was in a funk career wise, he wasn’t hot as a producer and was still dealing with backlash from Blurred Lines. Now it seems he has some resurgence with Pusha album and other songs he produced sprinkled in here and there. Even though he doesn’t have many hits to show for it. Great point.

Edit: Pharrell’s solo beats weren’t as good during that time as well, he wasn’t working with Chad. That’s also a reason people may have overlooked BUSH even though he did great on that.

I actually bought the vinyl of the first Vol. This was a classic tape when it came out to me. Played it constantly. Heatstroke my fav song it. Literally Goat Young Thug with Goat Ariana. Pharrell sprinkle in to make it a classic. Vol.2 has to be on par. Even though Vol.1 had some duds but these were still enjoyable.
