this must be the most quintessential 80s movie oat lmao
(Top Gun, 1986 Dir. Tony Scott)
Rather bask in the glory of Labrynth, Princess Bride and Willow

Eddie Murphy would beg to differ

I am in no place to judge this but i feel like they don't really make good comedy movies anymore
Been s*** since 2015
I blame the mcu

A Michelle Yeoh movie about the multiverse.
Can't wait for the queen to show these new action stars how it's done.
A24 making capeshit now?

RDJ accidentally put out the torch instead of passing it when he did Tropic Thunder (one of the all time comedies) and Iron Man in the same year?

I was thinking more like guardians of the Galaxy, age of Ultron, and Civil War coming out one year after the other and making Hollywood not want to spend money on “big funny movies” but instead making “big movies funny”
21 jump street came out 4 years after what you’re talking about so comedy wasn’t “dead” then

Making classic big funny movies usually requires a troupe that is pretty familiar with each other and in the zone and after Apatow lost steam
not many out there
Long time since an SNL character turned into a classic comedy film
Was Nice Guys a comedy? That was classic

Former SNL cast members still made some funny movies but they went completely under the radar

also, nice guys is a classic comedy but the fact that it bombed despite coming out over a month away from Civil War backs up what I’m saying.

Definitely need to watch that Tina and Amy
You get h**** off the thumbnail?
Tina always trying to downplay her hotness on 30 Rock

You should see the SNL episodes she hosts. There are sketches she’s literally playing hookers

I remember Maya Rudolph had a few sketches where she was playing trashy bimbos but she actually looked super hot

Paul saw that and put a ring on it

yeah definitely did one of these when i found out about that way later

Can't think of the last grade A comedy I seen
Even Apatows crew either moved on to cape s*** like Paul rudd or got too hipster Hollywood soy boy like Seth rogan. Last movie I saw of him was the pickle or some s*** and it was mid as hell, low budget str8 to streaming like most comedies now
Nightmare Alley was actually better then I thought it’d be
Visuals and acting carried it by a lot though, the story was kinda all over the place, same with the editing.

Saw the trailer again at my Nightmare Alley show
might be the movie I’m looking forward to the most rn
Watched taxi driver for the first time. Coming into this movie i was scarred i wasn't gonna like it cuz I heard joker was inspired by this and i didn't like joker.
But holy s*** this movie was amazing, Amazingly shot it was so hard to believe that this was made in the 70's. This movie has this weird uncomfortable mood that fits so well. It also feel's so much more grounded then joker which helps so much. interesting themes about how loneliness can effect a man and many other things.
This movie has easily one of the most uncomfortable scenes i've seen in a film. Like if i ever re-watch this movie i'll probably skip it cuz of how uncomfortable it made me.
If i had maybe one flaw i would say about the movie kinda felt like all the racism against black people was just there and didn't add much to the story. Haven't read much about the film so maybe i'm wrong but wow was very surprised. 9.5/10

Dunno why ppl always compare joker to taxi driver
King of comedy is the movie that was an obvious influence
