Sono is amazing, but so versatile and out there that its hard to rec anything, but he’s basically been one of the biggest names out there since early 2000s and has done anything from your standard J-horror, to Yakuza flicks, family dramas to full on arthouse and even a hiphop musical his work is so crazy i sometimes call him the artsy brother of Miike. Very stylized, energetic and sometimes similar acts of taboo as in Miike films but Sono’s work is in general more layered and intellectual. Masters the use of classical music perfectly too
