For starters, I can say I appreciate what this album is. I’m happy I can say that instead of saying I appreciate what it’s supposed to be. If this record is really his final as promised, it leaves on a rewarding note. It unites every sound he’s ventured into thus far and pushes for a more industrial approach. The production throughout this thing is actually awesome. Very pretty, very minimal, and very fun. Would sound perfect during the summer, sometimes I even find myself getting nostalgic to some songs. Gambino himself leaves little to songwriting and singing compared to an Awaken, My Love or Because The Internet.

12.38 sees Gambino as the least memorable part of his own track which I find really unfortunate seeing as its my favorite on the entire album. The show is completely stolen by the amazing 21 Savage guest verse and the gorgeous outro from SZA. Production on this track along with the rest of the album is worth so much praise. The harps and bass guitar that conclude 24.19 are very avant garde. The song 19.10 has a heavy Pharrell/N.E.R.D influence and I love everything about this song. It’s about as sunny and funky as a pop song could get, Gambino shines on his vocal performances. I find the intro song and Why Go To The Party forced and add nothing to the context of the album, definitely could’ve gone without either. Almost just poor interludes but I am a fan of how they transition into the next songs.

Feels Like Summer, a single bundled in a pack from 2018, appears and it’s one of the highlights of the album. Vocally, he sounds comfortable and the lyrics are still as relevant as they were in 2018. Love this song. The more barebone tracks on this album (Algorythm and 32.22) are tribal and powerful. They manage to do so much with so little, strictly speaking on the lyricism and vocal performances. The second half of the record includes catchier hooks and more melodic instrumentals, one of my favorites being “Little foot big foot get out the way”, a song about dealing d****! Very nice.

I have alot of respect for Gambino for always being bold throughout his entire music career. Never afraid to make whatever kind of music he feels. And the biggest compliment I can give this album is I respect everything it is. Definitely his strongest body of work and a great note to leave off on.
