And yeah I was talking to Sherm last night about this, I think there will be more chances in the future for sure, maybe for wax too

These are @sentient_sherm_bag 's
Preservation signed the one on the right yesterday
Seeing them together in a sunbeam
Glad more fans and fam have been able to link up.
Got my cd from the mail, that will be enough for me. I got a piece of his art.

They had them on sale in vinyl? Damn I need all of these for the collection. I have most of the ones before he stopped selling them online
@Vox , thank you very much for the posts

40 seats, no video or recording was allowed
Mark Shaw (the guy who designed all of Ka's covers) recorded the whole thing but the recording is for archival purposes and won't be released
Event went 90 minutes and included chances for people to ask questions
I wrote as many notes as I could and will post them later today or tomorrow

Yeah they were selling the listed albums on wax on the first day of the pop up and after that you had to be selected through a lottery
I was there on the first day and won the lottery as well but I can't split with 100 for a record right now
Hopefully there will be future chances at CDs and wax
@Vox , thank you very much for the posts
Extremely happy to do this and thankful that I had the opportunity to come to this event
Wish I wasn't leaving tomorrow because I'd love to take notes on the next two after hours events
Sherm is aiming to hit the Friday after hours event - if he does I'll post any notes he hits me with here asap
That Remembrance is beautifully written
Truly
It's very clear how much the people around Ka cherish him and his work, very special to witness and be around

What an experience...miss this cat.

These are my notes:
Once they started working on music regularly...He was always hungry, he always showed up
Ka: "Never stop me from what I'm going to do"
Mimi referred to him as a good spirited goon
Ka felt like he was the weak link in natural elements which made him turn to and team up with his man, Kev
Kev was older and calmed down Ka
Kev was always telling Ka he was rapping too fast
Got the name for Nightbreed from the movie
Ka and Kev were vibing off of horrorcore, gravediggaz heavy at the time
They were very inventive murderers in their verses
Kev wanted to be in bad boy/shiny suit swag heavy but Ka was not f***ing with it on some "we're Brownsville niggas, we're not doing this"
Kev forced Charlemagne to sample Can't Help It
Charlemagne's favorite softer record of theirs was Ectasy
Ka always wanted to be an honorary member of Wu
Voo told a story about Ka giving his arm to a blind stranger crossing the street when speaking about how he was a statesman and a people person always
Ka was always on jokes but could get serious at the drop of a hat
His cousin Tyrone and Mimi doubled down on how everything in Ka's raps was the truth
Tyrone spoke about how there were empty lots next to and in front of Ka's place growing up and how Brownsville is full of them and how dead bodies would come up whenever any construction was done on them
Ka showed Voo how to stash a 25 in his boot
Mahershala Ali asked a question that spoke to Ka sharing a birthday with hip hop and how he was getting better with each record and how he felt The Thief Next to Jesus could be his best record
This led to a discussion about ageism in hip hop
Charlemagne spoke to how much ageism bothers him and how hip hop is the one genre that disrespects its legends and how he's still cooking and how he can match whoever's in the room with him
Charlemagne: Despite doing big records with big rappers, his biggest achievement was keeping nine dudes out of trouble (Ka was a part of this nine) by keeping them on music
Gave an example of everyone coming together on a Saturday - in three hours everyone there would have to leave with a song, maybe there would be a freestyle at the end where people would be trying to outrap each other
Voo spoke to comparing rhymes on the train, how Ka would have scraps of lyrics on bus tickets
He would call Ka out for chicken scratch and hear that right back from Ka
Ka went from a partner to inspiration for Voo
The last time he saw him was the pop up in 2023
Reflecting on this almost brought Voo to tears and Charlemagne broke down
Ka used to always say no one would ever sign him on his way out of the studio but he didn't mean it in a negative way
Showed Nkosi Koproduced Gray-El to never give up
Ka believed everyone should be able to do one pull up, Mimi said doing this would be a great way to honor his memory
Ka only made songs with friends
Ka used the word listeners over fans
Ka would do a 100 push ups in the studio, was a super athlete, super fit and nice as f*** at basketball

These are @sentient_sherm_bag 's initial notes:
Ka loved Rick & Morty and tried to put all his friends onto it
Roc and Preservation both met him through events stemming from GZA’s Firehouse
He rode a fixed-gear bicycle
He once gave Preservation a popcorn machine out of nowhere, Ka loved air-popped popcorn
Roc was on some “starving artist s***” and Ka out of nowhere dropped off 4000 to hold him down for some activities if you get my drift
He was a perfectionist in every sense and would sometimes spend an entire year working one song to perfection
Producing for Ka was hard because of that, he only wanted the best
Made Preservation read The Manchurian Candidate before they started Yen Lo. He had been into the book and movie heavily long before the album came about
Roc has some Ka beats he’s been sitting on that he says “yall are gonna hear that soon”
@Vox you and sherm are the realest for all the pics and info thank you so much man seriously, wish I could be there this week
@Vox you and sherm are the realest for all the pics and info thank you so much man seriously, wish I could be there this week
No problem at all, glad to do it since most don't have the opportunity to attend
Wish one of us could have been there for the talk on his time as a firefighter
And yeah, I wish you and everyone else that rocks with Ka could have been there too
