I’m half-brown & my parents wanted me to go down that route (doctor, engineer, lawyer), but as I got older - they were happy with me going into Fintech/Banking when I started making a decent living there alhamdulilah.

So brown kids, if you want ya parents to respect you? Wave some bands in their face & let them know YOU’RE GOOD.

How you get into that

Look up “Business Technology Management” degrees/diplomas.

You can do a BComm in BTM and find suitable jobs in banking/financial institutions, however the positions will be tech related. Obviously, like with any job, experience in anything remotely related is preferred (even if you were a teller at the branch).

Example, right now, I’m working in a DevOps environment at a bank’s head office. I talk with devs & programmers, and also bankers at the same time.

BComm in BTM turns you into a badass hybrid that understands both finance & technology.

Seems to me like being a doctor is the exact opposite of boring

They just want for us to be successful, and based on what they grew up knowing - that is being a doctor lawyer or engineer.

I touched on the post effects of doing your own thing and battling the pressure and eventually things just fall into place ONCE you make money in the podcast episode in OP.
