Venom, Shang Chi and Godzilla all made money
you guys make no sense
Forgot about Shang Chi (haven't seen yet). i meant more about Black Widow. And didn't mention Godzilla
I feel like you are kinda skipping obvious points for the sake of keeping this overlying one about Dune.
Every film you mentioned had a natural marketing run where the studio did not lose money delaying the movie. Bond's break even ballooned cus they released multiple trailers, TV sports and were ready to go 18 months ago. Same for F9 and BW. Dune also started their initial push last fall when the movie was still supposed to come out Dec 2020 before being delayed 10 months only for it to be split with a same day stream release
Like you laid it out right there the difference between the ones that broke and didn't.
its stupid to just look at box office numbers for dune when its also released on streaming
dune is doing very well
Dune
break even: ~$330M
box office $293M
it will just scrape even maybe meanwhile those other films actually made money
wait so after you been saying Dune still might break even and get added to your list of successes????
lmao i enjoyed this convo but i'm out man
The moment Disney tried that critics bash it
The general audience doesn't know what it wants then

Are critics really criticizing this movie because it's dense?

That’s the lowball numbers most places have it at $350-400M pretty sure
If it makes money it’s going to be pennies but okay keep acting like this

Eternals?
I’ve literally seen reviews criticizing it for being TOO different
There’s a reason they didn’t announce a sequel till Monday lol
It’s part one of two and they couldn’t announce if they were going to even finish the story until Monday Bc of box office numbers
Whats up with Last Night In Soho numbers tho,why is that not doing well
its marketed as a straight horror movie so audiences are likely confused on what the hell it is. At first it seems like its gonna be a female Midnight in Paris type thing

Is Squid Games a financial failure because it made $0 at the box office? Dune was available for streaming day one on HBO. The streaming numbers are worth something to WB, and they’ll be considering this on top of the box office dollars. How they calculate success off streaming numbers is beyond me, but in this case, box office just barely breaking even is not terrible.

Comparing to squid games is a headscratcher

Compare it to any thing that’s been released on streaming. These movies make $0 at the box office but are still successes for the company based off viewership.
Dune has the hybrid release, where it breaks even at the box office and simultaneously boosts HBO Max viewership.
The business model has changed, success is measured differently.

Yeah, but people aren't calling it a movie that makes you think.
Spidey def grabbing that number one spot and the top 5 openings of the year will be all Marvel
