  • Cinema is back. And just imagine the yearly box office numbers once they add Brand New Day, Odyssey, Doomsday, and Dune 3

2026 could be a historical year for theaters

    Good or bad

    PALESTINE DATTEN

    Good or bad

Budget is $80, it’s projected to do $40-45 this weekend just in the States alone

I’d say a pretty solid result when paired with the audience reception

Unless this crashes and burns to a halt next week it’s safe to say we’re going to get MK 3

  • On one hand, it’s good so many recent movies are doing so well

On the other, I can’t say there’s been a worse selection of movies to make money since… ever?

Andor gave Star Wars a 30 point lead heading into the fourth quarter only for them to lose it in the first 5 minutes

It should at least be flat compared to last weekend across this weekend. I’m curious to see Backrooms during the weekdays next week. Be interesting to track that. I think , I may turn out to be wrong, but the nature of Backrooms and the u unconventional-ness of it won’t lend to the avalanche we saw with Obsession. It will be front loaded and I expect next week for it to have to fight with MOTU and Scary Movie.

Mando gonna make $25-$30M this weekend and I won’t feel bad at all about that

  • Backrooms is gonna open to just shy of 100 million

That’s the biggest opening for an original movie of all time? No?

the theater is very healthy right now. a lot of different things you can see right now.

a few different horror movies (passengers, obsession, backrooms)
some franchise/big IP stuff (michael, mando & grogu, the devil wears prada 2, mk2)
a couple of black led films (i love boosters, is god is)
something for the kids (sheep detectives)

It’s admittedly a little sad seeing Star Wars go out like this but it’s at the expense of the future of filmmaking coming to prominence so I’m all good with it
