Summer 2024 has almost the opposite problem summer 2023 had too many movies.
Last Summer had like 20 blockbusters coming out within a week of each other.
Some did amazing numbers, Barbenheimer, across the Spider-Verse, Guardians 3
Some did alright, Little Mermaid, I think that transformers flick Rise of the beasts turned a little profit, Elemental, Mutant Mayhem,
Some were outright disastrous flops, Flash, Indiana Jones, Haunted Mansion.
This summer blockbuster season looks barren imo. Deadpool and Wolverine will definitely save the box office and twisters could be a surprise hit but other than that

It’s crazy that Little Mermaid opened on Memorial Day weekend last year and did $118.6 million compared to Furiosa’s $31 million this Memorial Day weekend yet we still consider Little Mermaid alright numbers in terms of last year. Goes to show how much numbers are down

Thought Garfield would have did better but I guess kids today don't really care for Garfield like that.
I think Little Mermaid just cost way too much. It made a profit which is nothing to sneeze at especially with the state of how hella movies are flopping now.
I took my little niece to see Little Mermaid last memorial day weekend and it was packed, hella kids and families there. She loved it and I thought it was cute.
Flash forward this Friday same amc lobby was hella empty and it was a 6 pm showing for Furosia and I was only one there lmao.
2024 is a really a bloodbath at the box office
Stingier consumers because of inflation. Im glad dume hasn't been beaten because thats real cinema
COVID, Streaming and Inflation really changed the game forever. Folks are way picker now than they were five years ago.
Praying theaters don't go the way of the arcades or video store in the next decade

Currently having an existential crisis about my garbage taste in movies, but Dune pt II has stood out from my pile.
I'm banking on the second half of this year to deliver.
Read some people doubting Joker 2 crossing 1B
Doubt it hits 800m
Despicable Me 4 will be this year's only 1B film
