2023 reads

Just started reading Christopher Ruocchio’s Sun Eater novels, starting with Empire of Silence. Only a few chapters in so far, I can already see the Dune inspiration from it.

My reading goal was 45 books for 2023, but only read 31. Normally I'd always read 40+ books but this year I'm not going for quantity, don't wanna pressure myself into reading that many books. It takes away from enjoying every single book and somehow I feel pressured to finish the book as fast as possible.

For 2024 the books I really want to read this year are War and Peace by Tolstoy and The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoyevsky.

Exceeded my goal of 24 with 31. Participated in a book club. Read a few with a partner. Pretty good year. Haven't aimed very high since 2019. I'll prob just keep chipping away at writers I like (PKD, Portis, Saramago, Thompson) and sprinkle in some big ones like Gravity's Rainbow and 2666. Prob introduce myself to McCarthy at some point. Reading is hard not to have blindspots in.

Finally got around to reading No Longer Human, it reminded me of The Stranger so much

have any of you ever read romance of the three kingdoms? if yes, what can i expect?

I love a good philosophical and historical piece and want to learn more about the chinese outlook
