hardcore s***
my theory is that he left it off..infidels on purpose. I think it was during that period when this was crafted. it's a deep cut..but not too deep. Why put a precious diamond in a box with stones with inferior value?
Only Bob could afford such a luxury. Most artists would strive to the most desperate of measures to drop a track of this quality.. and Bob was like.. nah this ain't it. Ye and Bob love to leave legit heat from their mainstream official discography.
With that being said Jokerman and Neighbourhood Bully is on the same project for crying out loud

I agree. All the real goats do this, Neil Young, The Kinks, Prince, Kanye etc not just Dylan etc
makes being a fan super rewarding to find s*** in the vault thats just as good as the famous stuff.

George probably would have the reputation of being the goat beatles by music hipsters if the band continued. Dude basically blew his load with his best material by dropping ATMP as a triple album.
Dude, maybe should have kept his best material tricle out with easy subsequent release. On the other hand it's difficult not to argue that ATMP is the best solo Beatle release for this reason.
iirc it was Phil Spector who said he should drop a triple album due to the backload of material that was ignored/vetoed by Lennon and McCartney.

Yeah I think it's a tough call but he made the right one at the time, which assumed he was going to be able to keep coming up with music of that quality. He wasn't really unfortunately but still to trickle out the material would have probably felt like too much of a contrived scheme to make the most money.
I was a Plastic Ono Band guy for a long time but now agree ATMP is the most monumental, transcendent (borderline spiritual) album from the solo Beatle catalog. Wouldn't be the case if he split it up into multiple albums.
You into the Beach Boys? Dennis Wilsons trajectory is so similar to George's it's crazy

Bro....I'm really lacking when it comes to my exposure to the Beach Boys' discography. Pet Sounds is pure piff and arguably the most fire project from '66, but to me it comes at a big "what if??"
Smile if fully realised could of had them contending with the Beatles
ISIS, OH ISIS YOU'RE A MYSTICAL CHILD
been digging Desire a ton lately, granted I watched Martys documentary just the other month putting it off for too long

Bob was in his bag right here. Emmylou Harris providing backing vocals
Jacques Levy contributing to writing credits
Scarlet on that violin
All while going through a divorce. Very few are built like Bob

he got Joan and Emmylou around for this era but still sung about the love of his life and the mother of his children
I stan my monogamous goat

Rolling Thunder must have been so brazy. I would have loved to been alive to see it in the flesh.
Never thought of going to the cutting room bootleg compilations until now. some super good versions of songs here.
this version stuck inside of mobile that has slower drums and a looser feel

this version of you're gonna make me lonesome that's basically a slow rock yacht rock 70s ass slow jam version with drums, keys and bass etc

Yeah George's songwriting talent blossomed as a sort of competitive mentorship to Lennon/McCartney but Dennis did it more by necessity because Brian could barely hold it together let alone write an albums worth of songs every year. By '71 Dennis was the bands MVP doing most the heavy lifting on classics like Surfs Up. He even recorded an entire no skip classic in the early 70s that got shelved until recently.

The history around who did what is extremely foggy so no hate in this correction.
But going off memory Dennis left the surfs up sessions and wasn’t happy with the direction that manager Jack Reilly was taking, and there isn’t any Dennis songs or vocals on Surfs Up. It’s a thrown together mix of: 2 Carl songs, a Bruce song, an Al song, a Mike cover song, an Al and Mike song, an Al and Brian song, and 2 Brian’s and a brian/parks song at the end. Something like that. Some of which were recorded earlier and thrown together. I feel like Dennis might have wanted the original Landlocked album to come out as it was which was much more cohesive and mostly made up of Brian and Mike songs in the classic beach boys set up with an Al song, a Dennis song and a Carl led Brian written song to round things out. Very underrated album and the soniclovenoize version is good, the original home of Til I Die. Surfs Up was the better album to makeover their image so I see why it happened that way though. Surfs Up and the following 2 albums are more seen as entering Carl’s era as leader if anything.
Dennis has 4 songs on the preceding album Sunflower which is kind of his big moment. That’s another democratic album but more cohesive than surfs up, with 4 Dennis 2 Bruce and 7 songs of Brian collaborating with different members of the boys. Now documentation is shaky and people say Brian wasn’t that involved but also Sunflower was the first album on the new label they signed to Reprise, and it is said that Brian was envigorated by this. And it showed in the writing credits and I think he probably oversaw production more here than people assume, and would follow that up with the unreleased Landlocked
Before that of course the lo-fi trilogy which is damn near 100% Brian music and production and super classics for me
Brian’s creativity post pet sounds is seriously undersold
And so is the pre pet sounds period specifically The Beach Boys Today as a classic and proto pet sounds album with its two sided suite-ish format, upbeat but still more mature songs on side A and sentimental ballads on side B
Summer Days and Summer Nights a classic too! Don’t let those innocent lyrics fool you, the wrecking crew and Brian’s sound that is on pet sounds is nearly in full force here, and Today!
I ended up rambling but that 70-71 period in particular seems to have confusion around it.
TLDR Dennis ain’t no mvp or even participant on Surfs Up since you wanna be like that

Ok im tripping about the Surfs Up contributions, confused myself by having (Wouldn't It Be Nice To) Live Again as bonus track on there forever
and found the long version of Till I Die at the same time so always lump it in as another Dennis opus I guess.
What I should've said is that by the early 70s Dennis was the low-key MVP. the honing of his skill was slow but steady;
I know Brian basically rearranged the whole thing but Little Bird is my favourite song on Friends by alot
Be With Me second best song on 20/20
I Went To Sleep far and away the best tho
I know Sunflower is considered an opus but I find it to be a little overrated, except Forever which is a mega masterpiece that Brian considered the best Beach Boys song (depending on which time of day you ask him probably but still). His solo single from that year, Lady (Fallin In Love) would have been the second best song on Sunflower it was on there.
Surf's Up is a much, much stronger album than Sunflower imo and Dennis would have had the second best song (After Day In The Life Off A Tree) if c*** Mike Love didn't insist piece of s*** Student Demonstration Time made the cut over stunner (Wouldn't It Be Nice To) Live Again. Dennis had an entire album of great songs he could've contributed to Surfs Up if they let him. for that matter the Beach Boys themselves had an entire other album of great songs they they threw in the vault instead of releasing. I feel like the could've legitimately turned Surfs Up into a no skip triple album if they pooled all the good s*** just from 1971 together
Carl & The Passions a nice album but Make It Good and Cuddle Up are crushing hymns on an entirely different level from what the rest of the band was doing. Maybe its "seen" as the period Carl took over but his songs still aren't touching Denis'.
Steamboat probably the highlight of Holland
Some interesting stuff on the later 70s albums but none of it touching doomed boomer opus Pacific Ocean Blue
Im obsessed with pre Pet Sounds era dont worry
already had all those album before I saw the og Smile Tour in '04
Does a version of just like a woman similar to this exist on any live album or compilation on streaming rn?

Doesn’t need to be this exact version - it seems the Bangladesh concert isn’t on Apple Music - but I love the song in this key
a mf gotta turn 30 before he gets to his Dylan phase
shame on me
