Look at the second* reply to the thread lmao
Lol I should’ve known cause it had that many likes
It's sad that MJ just gets reduced to an artist who sold a lot of records and made tons of hits. MJ was not only the GOAT performer but he had a really iconic "supernova" presence worldwide that can only be rivaled by Jesus and his catalog is extremely timeless for all generations.
It's more than just hits. Old Town Road sold more than 10 times what What's Going On by Marvin sold but which song stood the test of time more?
Paula Abdul also had an album from the 80's that had 4 #1 songs on 1 album which is almost as much as Bad by MJ(which had 5) but who's songs stood the test of time more?
That being said, I do think Blinding Lights will stand the test of time, ironically due to being a throwback like Uptown Funk that older people can also enjoy but I'm just saying you can't always just go by the numbers.
Thriller isn't all that important my guy
Maybe it was in the 90s but not now lol
Weeknd stans are so f***ing stupid lmao

MJ would be happy to see his son doing well

Free The Weeknd from the shackles of MJ comparisons
Free The Weeknd from the shackles of MJ comparisons
The only people who compare them are you guys
Streaming going to have kids in 20 years believing Blinding Lights was bigger than Thriller
its the streaming era so a song will never have the impact of a older song anymore. Kids of the future probably won't even remember this song and it'll probably get dethroned. Party rock and shape of you is in the top 10 biggest hot 100 too and no one cares for those songs
Honestly I think the video for Thriller was way more iconic and impactful than the actual song itself.
Still a timeless classic record, but I think he has a handful of hits that are better and bigger than that
Blinding lights ain’t one of them
Blinding lights ain’t one of them
You’re right Blinding Lights is in fact not a hit by Michael Jackson
No gimmicks, just performance art and great music. Im glad our gen got to experience such a dope roll out
Really really dope. Classic song. But things would be a little different if we weren't in a pandemonium
Hard to explain but this feels so forced. It's not even remotely close to being the biggest song ever, it's probably not even his biggest song
It's a hit don't get me wrong, it just doesn't feel like this cross-generational global mega hit an award like this would suggest it is
And I don't think covid plays a part in that
It wasn't even bigger than Life Is Good which came out after. I think too much payola made it come off too strong but now it has big streaming numbers to back it up so in a vacuum it looks great but all things considered it was just another pop Weeknd single
Blinding lights ain’t one of them
Of course it isn’t, because MJ doesn’t have a song called Blinding Lights
Did you even read my post before replying
remember when was KTT making “king of the fall” jokes when the song dropped in it’s second week on billboard
