Your avi might be the goat black sitcom tbh, along with Bernie Mac Show

For writing overall they're both up there for me.

I also liked The Game before the BET revival. Lol.

Game as a one hour drama would’ve been legendary

I know exactly what your point is. I’ve already spoke on it. Insulting my intelligence and repeatedly telling me I’m missing the point doesn’t make it any more poignant

You do not get my point. I broke it down and you simply don't get it it. If you see no issue with what has been continuously described to you several times then there's nothing left to say.

You don't understand it. This is beyond anything you said lmao. You're talking to me about individuals blackness when I'm talking about acts. It's like you have no historical context of understanding or Hollywood structures.

    Go watch Hollywood Shuffle.

No, our perspectives are simply different. What you view as a minstrel act I’m seeing as a part of the authentic experience of being black shown on screen. Not for white audiences, not for cheap laughs, but simply from the perspective of its creator, which I believe is valid. It’s really that simple. For whatever reason, you view it otherwise. Perhaps you took the film a bit too literally. Regardless, I think your point on Insecure is simply wrong.

You think acting ghetto is "black people acting like black people".

You sound like a Caucasian trolling as black.

I agree. Black people that aren't from the ghetto creating shows with perfomative ghettoness is ignorant, but glad we agree. Finally it clicked.

  • May 1, 2020

I don’t view it as “ghetto” that is the point hahaha That’s a white perspective so it’s just hilarious to me that you think I’m the one sounding white here. I don’t view black women simply being loud and sassy as “ghetto” lmao that’s f***ing absurd and I certainly don’t think it’s performative when it’s done on screen by black actors written from the perspective of black men and women. Who am I to say their perspective isn’t authentic? Get off your high horse

People have to stop trying to debate topics without all their ducks in a row.

I explicitly said what my context was and exactly what I'm talking about and you're talking about a completely different topic that makes zero sense to the f***ing point. It's infuriating. Read and be quiet next time.

You literally just implied that the characters/actors being “ghetto” is performative lmao I responded by saying I don’t view black women simply being loud or sassy on screen as “ghetto” or performative. You keep implying that it is because the characters or creators aren’t from the ghetto and I’m saying that’s an idiotic take because it assumes black behavior. Which is, ironically enough, a very white thing to do. I don’t believe in the idea of acting ghetto, certainly not within the context of Insecure at least. Again, simply stating that I’m not getting what you are saying doesn’t make it any more poignant lmao

This is an absolutely ridiculous take. The multi-dimensionality Of Black People being displayed on that show and others is not “performative” it’s simply an authentic, full spectrum take on our experience as black men and women navigating a world designed to suppress that which makes us unique. I knew plenty of women who talked, walked, and acted just like Issae before the show even began and that’s part of the reason why I think it’s so popular because we all share in the same experience of having to navigate these predominantly white spaces while keeping our souls intact. We all know what it’s like to put on the “job interview” voice only to switch it back up once we get around our homies. To call it “performative” is completely missing the point and simply ignorant.

    Real ass post
