Could’ve went in so many different ways.

It’s grown on me a bit

That’s true but I suppose it depends on the risk. Why risk a human life if you don’t need to? Their work didn’t seem all that dangerous but it definitely seemed repetitive and detail orientated enough to send a robot up there IMO

And Ngl I dunno why they didn’t just add a d***

Well think about what you just said.
“Their work didn’t seem all that dangerous”…the humans being in space definitely seemed safer than being on earth I mean dudes wife and kids literally got killed while on earth, whereas he didn’t die cus he was a replica

So that’s just another factor that makes it more logical to send the humans to space while the replicas handle the miscellaneous s*** on earth like “being a family man”

That first episode is… well, absolutely awful. Nothing is more boring than a satire that calls too much attention upon itself. The concept is great. Some Charlie Kaufman type s***. But the execution is lazy. It wasn’t written by someone half as talented as the guy who gave us Being John Malkovich. In fact, it felt like it was written by one of those talentless liberal comedians. The humor doesn’t work. It’s neither subversive nor smart. It’s often vulgar but never funny like those trashy comedies from the 2000s.

A concept like this one is inherently metaphysical. It shatters your worldview, the way your relate to the world, the way you “perform” your identity. That’s exactly why The Truman Show or Synecdoche New York terrify people and make them question the way they perceive reality.

But what we got isn’t some profound, philosophical insight on the human condition. What we got is some campy s*** that tried really hard to be META and SELF AWARE. A pure work of cynicism. There’s nothing to gain from it. It’s supposed to make you think, it’s supposed to speak to your imagination. But what you get is what you see. There’s nothing beyond the surface, which is ironic because this fable urges you to find what lies behind appearances.

The ending itself reinforces the nihilistic nature of this project. You can’t destroy idols, icons and images with more idols, icons and images. It defeats the purpose.

    Exactly this

Feel like that would be too close to Mandy tho. But the idea of “stealing your friends replica body to go get revenge” sounded crazy while watching.

I thought about it because what could he do, killing him would be suicide, and the one dude already had nothing to lose. That s\*\*\* was so f\*\*\*ed though. But his insecurities led him to talk down to an already broken man and that’s where he f\*\*\*ed up.

Tbh this was a very thought provoking take on longer space missions that may go on more and more in the future where you have to be on the same ship for a super long time

It’s like the classic “going crazy at sea” trope

Yeah bro I like how they set it up to let us know this is a two man ship, if he dies then I’m stuck out here. It adds to that conflict where, he has nothing to lose like you said, and if I kill him im literally done too just imagine how f***ed up the rest of the mission is gonna be.

definitely a situation where they need more protocols for the worst of the worst happening. on earth and on the ship

Being able to transfer your consciousness that far is ridiculous though
