back in 2020 all you had to do was ask S and pay like $10 or something
idk about now
"Prove your lineage" is lowkey a slap in the face to a group of people whose family record/history has been either destroyed, lost, or never even kept lol
I don't understand the anger over this.
Reparations discussions are usually always counterproductive, they were debating this for months.
Also, I don't understand why they had an Asian dude in the task force lmao?

It’s pretty simple, if you can trace your fam back to slavery you get compensated. It really doesn’t need to be this complicated

I agree but people are making it complicated.
Also to @localblaccmane point, that whole "we have no records" thing is mainly a myth. We don't have have boat records lol but we are listed both as property and on the census after. And it doesn't really take long, unless someone was adopted with sealed records.
I say this as someone who thought the same but spent 13 minutes on Family Search and saw all 4 lines of my family traced to the 1800s.
The idea we fell out the sky and weren't documented in this country is a myth

A "myth"...maybe you should speak more for your family history. What you call a "myth" is a reality for other Black people in this country...or in my father's family, in another country.
Bruh tryna speak on his own experience as if that's the case for every Black person and therefore anything else is just a myth and not true...like good for you nigga you were able to trace your line back what that gotta do with me and my family?

No, it is a myth. Hundreds of Black Americans every other day are doing their genology now and realizing they bought into the same thing. Like I said there's cases where it's more difficult but that being the case doesn't make it a large encompassing truth
I'm not talking about Black people with different backgrounds or from other countries, not sure why you brought that up.

Again, you are saying all this as if other Black people have not already tried to trace their line back and have found nothing.

There's thousands of new records being released and digitized every day, there's professional genealogists that only work with Black Americans for this specific purpose and yield results because most people aren't good at it.
It's not a fool proof method of tracing lineage, but for Black Americans it's not a "slap in the face" or something impossible just because some folks haven't done it yet or weren't successful.
Cause you didn't find something a year ago doesn't mean you won't find it now.
But like I said most discussions around Reparations online go nowhere, and at this point I don't like debating about it in any way because I don't think it's a debate. I'm good on the replies.
From Here to Eternity is a good read, and the Cali task force seems to following Sandy Daritys plan a lot.

You mean bc it often just becomes a s***show of ADOS vs other diaspora?

It ain't a debate. You just came itt put words in my mouth, and tried to invalidate what my family has already done in regards to tracing our history and called it a myth.
On another note, I ain't checking back every year or so to figure out which plantations and/or islands my maternal and paternal families were on and being trading between. I'd rather just focus on the things they have done while free and that has been recorded and preserved by my families, as that is literally all that we know to have.
It’s always confusion / divisiveness / uncertainty when it comes to reparations for us…
pay up the damn money. How much longer we gotta wait

Lmfao this is my thread and you came in here with something thats literally being pushed as a majority problem when it's a minority problem.its not a slap in the face.
"I ain't checking..." Then don't. Case closed?
