3 songs in, this some pretty ass rambling
pretty rambling with some dark ass lyrics at points haha
This simply does not hold my attention. Where are the songs
Most of the songs on AFUT were SONGS. Idk. I also was never a real big fan like so many are, so it's whatever to me.
OH I'D WAIT THERE
FLOAT WITH THE WRECKAGE
FASHION A LONG SWORD
TRAVERSE THE MILKY WAY
TRYNA GET HOOOOOOOOOOME TO YOU

Couldn't really disagree more here. I obviously like AFUT more but FHL is significantly more accessible and "song-y".
Besties, Socks, Salem Sisters, Two Horses, Mary, Happy Birthday, Cold Country, Nancy and Goodbye are all insanely good.
Half of those are more "direct songs" compared to something like Basketball Shoes, Snow Globes, or Haldern

I feel like the songs don't have strong hooks that repeat, and if they do I can't separately identify them from the rest of the song. That could just be me not listening intently enough. But there's no "and you like Concorde", "she had Billie Eilish style", "good morning, show me the place where he inserted the blade" type of refrains to help keep me hooked into the song when the verses and instrumentation go off in different directions like they tend to do.
Whether it's by design or not, it just doesn't make for something I'd wanna play again and again, like I could play Good Will Hunting 20 times in a day and not get sick of it.

"Falling in love with a feeeeeling"
"Happilyyyy; up a treeee"
"Cheer up Child"
Basically all of Mary....
Idk man, I understand what you're saying and don't think you're doing anything wrong, but I don't agree. There's lots of refrains on here. It's not that far away from AFUT in terms of style the way a lot of people think it is on the surface.
Man after about a month I was really hoping this would grow on me, but it’s done the total opposite.
Let me preface this next part by saying that a strong majority of my favorite indie artists that are active at the moment have female singers, but holy s*** I cannot stand the female singers that BCNR has rn. The singing/melodies on this meander soooo much — at a lot of points I just felt like they were trying hard to show that they were able to hit certain notes with their singing, but like, I don’t give a s*** lmao. The lyrics also bored tf out of me on most of it. I feel like this baroque pop style with a female singer is done so much better by Faye Webster.
It’s a big shame because I actually love the instrumentation on here. I feel like there was potential with more a memorable vocal performance, better singing melodies, and stronger lyrics this could’ve been approaching as good as AFUH.

Yeah, it’s completely fallen out of rotation for me.
KEXP is so cool
