Of course the kendrick stan is trashing hiphop
Why are y'all upset? He said he's not just a hip-hop artist. He didn't say he doesn't respect hip-hop or he isn't a hip-hop artist at all and the reasons he gave for saying what he said are justified. It's possible that in his experience as a musician, it has been easier making hip-hop music than it's been making country music.
I want to be the best artist in the world. The only way I can do that is if I can show that I can do something other than rap
.
With that being said, country is still different. They put a lot more into it
.
But I love that they care about the story. I love rap, but I feel like that’s what it has been missing
These are just objectively false statements and come off as a knock on rap. why do you have to do something other than rap to be the best artist in the world ? Saying country puts a lot more care into it than rap is silly. If rap is missing the story element so is country
F*** off
Okay so now that you’ve said that how about an actual thought that I can reply to.
I love the fact that they put so much into it, but I hate the fact that the process is so long. I’ve never, ever spent that long on a project. CARAMANICA Is that because of the different production and writing approaches of the Nashville people? BIGXTHAPLUG They go all the way to the cadence. “Record this again, record this again.”
I feel like he dont realize you can have the same care put into rap
That part

All I see is an artist that has engaged in both worlds saying how he feels.
The way he describes rap isn't surprising to me because most of mainstream rap this decade has been s***.
Everything doesn't have to be seen as offensive.
Hate how much people disrespect hip-hop. Like it ain’t art. Like it ain’t the greatest genre in the world.
and those same ppl push out those that do care to the issue we have now with 2020s rap
not just caring music artists but all also from producers to engineers to creative directors, visual artists n even some business ppl - killed the love n joy n sense of purpose for them
i’m from dallas and i hate how this nigga of all the rappers we have blew up
You fw Montana n Zillionaire music?
9/10 a punch in can’t be recreated live and most these dudes are using the Big Sean method: do a bar here and there across sessions when you have a really good set of bars
Besides not being able to recreate some vocal takes live (which you probably cant even if written). Its not much different from writing.
like if someone hums a melody to the beat then thinks of lyrics that fit then they slowly evolve it into a hook. they just went to the studio instead of writing it all out.
Why doesn’t he try to be the best at hip hop first
why prove yourself to a genre that will be dead within a few years?

You must be as oblivious as he is....he clearly started off with rap because it helped him jump out the gate and now that he found country and its doing so well on the charts....hes fully embracing it.
Now hes trying his best back to wash his hands free of rap so the Country Whites can accept him 💔 just as Post malone did

If that's how you took what he said then fine. Still, I don't see him insulting rap. All he did was share his own personal experience working in both spaces. You can remain offended if you choose, of course.
we agree with this chat?
I been thinking this a lot. People only knowing how to punch in is making the art of “emceeing” become a lost art if that makes sense. Like a lot of these young rappers aren’t built to rap in cyphers

yea but doing that in one take on the mic is an entirely different set of energy and emotion that comes across on the mic versus punching in on different days off different zones
like that video of Young Thug getting his punches to sound correct and the engineer did like 60 punches in a short video, at some point, you’ve kinda gone away from the song and are now just tryna make sure it’s finished and sounds good

He probably don't even write half his raps
The problem I have is two fold
That might be an issue with a lot of current hip hop but not hip hop in general. He’s just sounding like someone who’s never put in serious effort or listened to any notable hip hop albums with great writing and good production
Also current country music is not even a good comparison. That s*** is just as watered down and generic as the lamest current hip hop you can think of
Definitely a maga ass take tho
