I feel like country is basically just the blues as well. I think they called it country when white people started making it commercially. So as far as I’m concerned the whole “country strumming southern singer songwriter” is lowkey a b******ization of the delta blues men, and it’s not a great look that it became theme music for conservatives but I don’t know.

“Stealing” is a weird word it’s obviously more complicated the way ideas spread but it sounds like you’re hoping for a feel good answer with the idea that white people just politely took it after black people were done. It’s more grey than that too. There were still living authentic blues/black folk players and singers during the days of Johnny cash that obviously weren’t given the same opportunities as the “country” singers. The industry was extremely segregated back then and a lot of these genre names just come from categorizations that the labels and stores came up with back then
