Finally getting a chance to listen and ngl I’m loving these. I’m now buying pretty solidly into the Renaissance trilogy being a reclamation of genres invented by black artists, and this feels like a full-hearted leap into the genre the way Act I was for house.

Can’t wait to hear what she’s got in her pocket if this is any indication frankly this feels like perfect timing yet again, given the country explosion last year and especially the Zack/Kacey/Tyler (finally listened to him as well a month ago and he slaps) vein of roots-adjacent country hitting the mainstream.

The thing I don’t like is the impersonality in the lyrics shes been on this whole era. At least change the lyrics up like ur ass aint going to no dive bar man. Make us believe this s*** at least lmao.

Southern imagery and references has always been a characteristic of Beyoncé’s career (see: B’Day). So a country album and this whole cowgirl thing seems more of a natural progression of her career, especially after Daddy Lessons, instead of this whole “reclaiming genres” (?) thing
