saucerbar for bar song for song overall quality and storytelling i have to give it to Kendrick but the energy evoked on songs like Family Business and Last Call is truly magic. kendrick has overall proved himself a better rapper than Ye but that authentic emotional feeling is something i’ve yet to see any rapper really recreate or even come near
What does it mean to be a better rapper when you can recall far more Kanye quotes than Kendrick ones? Yknow what I mean? Like we know it’s not all about technical ability because otherwise Eminem would be considered the goat.
Same goes for Metal, there’s really noodly bands that just shred in crazy time signatures, but are their songs that memorable? There needs to be a balance of experimentation and accessibility in order to truly push culture forward.
Kanye’s records do that more than Kendrick’s although he of course is a genius in his own right and has made multiple outstanding classics such as GKMC and TPAB.

Because niggas would give you an original song thats the future of the sound but then rap on their favorite mainstream beat the next song
So Far Gone is actually a really good example of that, it was genuinely a mixtape in the sense that the beats he was picking felt like u was going through his playlist
Like yea we gone rap on dj screw, 808s & heartbreak, hov, santigold etc like bro put his ipod on shuffle and rapped and then was like oh yea take best i ever had and successful too
man i really think is commercializing tapes really took away a creative safe space for rappers :(

Its why I always argue hard when people call rappers commercial mixtapes albums, or when people say whats the difference
A mixtape and an album is 2 different mindsets and you can tell by how some niggas is better on mixtapes and some is better on albums
